Human nature is to tense when facing an emergency. The most intuitive quick release will be a squeeze activated release. Ask any psychologist who studies fear response. Hell, ask any moviegoer in scary movie.

ok, I received more info from Core:
an expert for accidents (don't know what kind) came up with the idea of the twist, since according to studies the movement of the twist is done more times in our daily life, than pushing away (e.g. opening a beer bottle, turning the car key, etc). So this movement is more likely to recognize by the brain.
When dragged under water at 20km/h you need 28 kg force to release a push away release, since this is the force on your hand and lower arm (upper arm not calculated!).
So if the QR needs a force of 4 kg to activate, it will be 28+4=32 kg force to push away a release under water at 20km/h. And the faster you get dragged, the higher the force will be.
The problem with accidental releases (specially at snowkiting) is given with a push away release.
With a rotation release (releases at 46° twist) this is less likely to happen.

Here is a different thought in this conversation.
Has anyone put the release on the harness? Then you could make a pull release without worrying about the mentioned problems. Although I'm sure it would have it's own set of problems. Plus it would be the same release for each kite you use.

Toby...
It is your forum - you can do what you want however it seems to me like you are pushing harder than anyone for this new release and bar.

There are a number of harness based releases - the most common one being the slingshot surefire release.
I think the problem with harness based releases is then you need to force everybody to use the harness based release.

it is new and interesting. And I have contacts I use for more info.
Therefore I share the info and I am interested in feedback.
Core is an advertiser, but they didn't ask me to put the info online, since it is so far only available on the German market. But I want to discuss this and read other people's opinions, since I care about the sport and safety.

This is a piece of crap release (for me any way)! I do not use a donkey dork. If I get in trouble I'm never going to be able to hit the release to begin with since it is going to be far out of arms reach. We need better releases on our harness, or leash. The simple push away leash comes undone to easy. I've chased down 2 peoples kites that has had that happen.
Now if this was a release on a leash I might be interested.

This is a very good point if you are drag under water when the kite is flying.
For example if the bar get tangled and the depower does not work or simply despite of the depower the kite is still flying and pushing.
But what is hapenning if the force is very low ?
Basically you are under water and the line goes from lose to presured because your kite in pushed at the surface by the waves.
Can you activate this QR when the line is lose ?

When you push the QR, you actually remove the "blade" (I do not know how to call the thing that fit inside the QR) from its socket.
But if you turn the QR, I am wondering if without any force (i.e the line is temporally lose), can you still disconnect yourself.
I am just asking as I have no idea how this new system works.
