Deviant fin...it adjusts a few degrees to each side literally acting as a quad setup and hauls upwind as a tri better than a quad. The fin smooths out every turn and will help your kiting.

The kite line needs a bigger wave and high wind board.
The Taj can be a good for big days, BUT.. the heavy rocker and low volume
means it does not tolerate anything less than full powered riding.

My choice for big days is the 5-8 Alternator.
It has enough nose length not to pearl, but short enough for easy control.
It has less rocker and more volume than the Taj, so it will keep charging long
after the Taj leaves you sinking.

5-8 Dominator, 6-0 Quadflex, and a 5-8 Alternator (straps),
all in the standard FST surfboard construction.

Good stuff in the works....I think you and everyone else will be stoked. Try the Deviant fin in your alternator and watch the difference in everything from drive at bottom turns, to upwind ability that nearly every tri fin lacks because of the dragging center fin.

+1 for Sweet Potato (4'10'' or 5'0'')

I'm considering buying a Sweet Potato in the standard FST construction. Just wondering how well I can expect it to hold up for kitesurfing... resistance to pressure dings etc?

I caution you on that choice as it will not hold up unless you baby the board. FireWire does not cover the abuse and wear/tear on the surf boards due to kiting. Hold out a little while longer as we have some insane light wind/ high performance models in the works.

There is a board missing from the firewire catalogue; Id like to see in the lineup. It's the one Taj was winning on and snapped a month or two back. He said it was the best board he'd ever owned. It was shorter and wider than the Taj model available now; with a flatter rocker and thickness that carried out to the rails. At a guess I'd say it was a glass proto type board sprayed up to look like a firewire. Dimensions looked around 6' x 18 5/8".

Taj is constantly tweaking his dimensions ever so slightly. From time to time Firewire make a running change once he's settled on something consistently. Firewire don't change the taj model every time he makes the slightest tweaks.
FW have never sprayed his boards to look like a FW. That’s way we see photos of him on Mayhems from time to time.
We are going to introduce a new Taj model next season so keep your eyes peeled.

i just wish i could get these boards in different sizes. I feel like these four boards are a decent vareity of shapes, give us size options and i'll bite. I'd love to get the dominator a little bigger, and in the diamond tail maybe??

How about getting the step down rails into the kite line, spitfire maybe?

I feel like Firewire has a greater selection of models and sizes than any other surf company. If you have the time and can demo some models you can be really scientific with board selection in the surf range. For the kite range though every other kite company offers greater variety for surf model selection.

I get it, firewire build quality and flex are awesome, however, I have a hard time believing that these factors will compensate for being unable to get proper board fit.

I feel like my best bet may be to get a board in the surf range, and glass over the deck and rails to get it to hold up to the rigors of kiteboarding.

I understand the production is complicated, but why can't they just take a shaped board from the surf range and tell the guy glassing boards to glass it for kiting.

Extra materials and labor for glassing a stronger board are negligable. Make it happen.

Oho and the CUSTOM BOARD DESIGN from the surf range, make it happen for kiting.
I'd love to click a little box on the custom board design widget to add heavier glass and another to add straps.
