Has anyone tried one of these to generate a vaccum from a compressor?
Does it generate enough negative pressure?

Never tried a venturi vacuum pump. I have used a rotary vane pump, basically the ones used by auto shops to evacuate A/C systems in cars. Quiet and works really well, you can get a full 28mmhg no problem. Not too expensive either, you can get a decent one for under a hundred bucks. Most auto parts stores will carry them. Here's an example. I'm not endorsing this specific pump, just showing you the type I'm referring to.
