Taking a 9m kite out in over 40 knots..... over 40 knots is 50 mph.

That's not safe by any measure.

This is just what we need another kite pimp saying his 9m kite is safe and performs just fine in 50 mph winds.

Kyle and Rocky...... reminds me of Bevis and Butthead.

Aloha Fred,

In regards to safely flying a 9m in winds over 40, this is not a reccomendation to anyone to do the same.I found myself in a situation where the wind speed increased heavily in the Eastern part of the Gorge and the kite kept its composure under heavy load.

Sure, call me a pimp! I love working with Airush. I have my reasons to stick with a company that feels like family at this point. 7-8 years now. I certainly have some bias since I spend a ton of time on Airush kites but, I do try my best to keep things objective.

Rocky's attack is pretty immature and its a shame he hasnt replied with a legit review of the kite. His cred is getting crushed after 2 posts. Hopefully he can dig out of this and keep things on the positive from here on out. Id say it's pretty crucial this happens for Dimitri and Epic's sake.

Remember, I did not start this post. I am simply lending my personal experiences to this forum in defense of this kite.

This is what you wrote:

[quote="Kyle_F"]..... I am amped on this kite. I've taken a 9 One in over 40kts without any doubt of my safety or the kites performance.... [quote]

[b]"I've taken a 9 One in over 40kts.."[b]
That means going out on over 40kts.. not I got caught out there when the wind went up...

[b] "without any doubt of my safety" [b] That means perfectly safe, fine and dandy, no risk at all.

[b]"any doubt of ...... the kites performance....[b] This means the kite preforms absolutely fine in 40kts+ ...... 50mph. For gods sake sand flies waist high in 50mph winds

If you are going to be a spokesman for you company of kite you can't write this type of tripe.

This Rocky guy may have been over the top, rude or whatever but he was not putting people at risk in what is an already extreme sport. Your comments are simply irresponsible and can lead to accidents. Marketing hype like yours that puts clients at risk is not only unethical, but really bad for business. You don't put your customers at risk.

Anybody that does not have at least some doubts about their safety with a 9m kite up in 50mph winds is either lying or does not know what they are talking about, especially if it's up in the Gorge.

...not to change the subject but your friend Yamashita in Japan has been very impressed with the EPIC kites. He has been letting a lot of people demo his kites that he bought at full retail (but we gave him Free Shipping to help him out) and from my understanding they are very impressed and few of them already ordered some EPIC kites.

He also said that the Infinity drags downwind and many of his buddies who rode it were unable to ride upwind. Which is why I stopped pestering you about getting a demo of one :thumb:

I think it is very nice (especially on this quite impersonal medium) to sincerely apologize for a mistake. I appreciate that, it rarely happens.

Meh. I would have been more impressed if he'd stood by his statement rather than bowing to public opinion.

Props to you RockyChatwell for your apology. Maybe a little slow in coming, but professionally done.

Kamikuza: Think you are off base. He did stand by his original words as he indicated he "was just disappointed in how this kite flew"...but the manner in which he expressed his opinion was "unprofessional."

So PMU should also stand by his imbecilic statements?
The public opinion can be correct once in a while, and that is the time to bow to it.

FredBGG,

Please dont mistake my personal experience for hype. Speaking from one rider to another, the One 9 handled winds of over 40kts. I do have some experience in high winds so I'm aware of my limits. I'm also alot quicker to pull the safety when its that heavy. :) You can take this information and judge it how you wish but, I really shared this experience to show that the kite can operate well beyond its recommended range.

I do not recommend riding the One 9 in 40kts. I also do not recommend that ANY rider that is not confident in their abilities to put a kite up in even 10 kts. I've seen more than a few people get hurt participating in this sport. Myself included.

Ultimately we all make our own choices when it comes to our safety. The act of kiteboarding itself is a choice that puts one's safety at risk. It comes down to the rider to educate themselves through lessons, friends, videos, etc. I see you are in Malibu....I strongly recommend not driving to the beach! :) Driving is definitely more dangerous that kiting there.

I've found that approaching every day you ride with some humility and awareness that the conditions WILL change has kept me relatively safe. I'm 10 years into this and still learning every day. Hopefully this clarifies my perspective when I wrote my original response.
