The production rule isn't going to stop progress - just slow it down.

Manufacturers will still be developing faster boards and claiming their 2013 is faster than the 2012.

And if they are not doing well in the races, that their 2012B is better than their 2012A.

At some stage board designs will stabilise.

Prices may come down a bit on the boards then, but fins will always be a big cost factor and kites are going to be very expensive if they keep pushing the weights down.

All the decisions taken so far have only hindered small companies overloading them with costs just to be able to compete. We certainly cannot make the rules ourselves but we also cannot be penalised or even cut out from competitions from the start. I want to be able to compete on an even footing, I don't want to loose before even starting.

Still in France, you have SLASH, Julien Kerneur previous shaper before being hired (caught :o ) by RRD in May 2011
http://www.slashboards.fr/ - the contact is marc@@slashboards.fr
ed
Julien's move to RRD highlights another point - not only money but also development skills are moving from local shapers to the kite production industry.
No / less feedback from races, no / less sponsored young talents to provide quality feedbacks about the board being developped - The sad and hidden face of the race market maturity somehow :( :(

On the other hand, the foillboard community (222 official members and growing plus twice as many non registered regular readers worldwide) on the kitefoil forum is waiting for the foilboard Worlds'impact in May 2012 so that a major brand could propose a mass produced, stiff, slim and effective molded hydrofoil+board set under 1200 USD.

"Foilboarding and mass production for a growing market" to be followed here viewtopic.php?f=159&t=2372429&p=720544#p720544

thanks Ellinas,
works very well
both upwind than downwind
is completely built in carbon
179x68 Weight: 5 kg
all have expressed a very positive opinion
considering the price of 1200 €
has not been sold a piece
thanks to the decision taken by the IKA
for me it was a big loss
economic, image
and moral

Man, what can i say...

I say only one thing : your board rocks.
It's always the same story, again and again...in many sports....

take care

thanks again
I hoped that this policy does not touch the kiteboard
sell the skin at a high price so that this inquisition is not the case :

slows the development of material = less work
landslide evolution = less work
kills small businesses = less work
There are many other negative aspects
but I can not find a positive
