DR kitesurfing

Postby JasonWPD » Tue Oct 04, 2011 8:05 pm

Anybody ever stay in an all inclusive in Puerto Plata or Soshua and make day trips to the kite beaches??

-cost effective?
-rent a car or cab?

overall, was it worth it? If you had to do it again, would you spend more and stay in Cabarete?

I'll be with my non-kiting girlfriend so keep that in mind when answering...

thanks
Jason

Oh man. you said it right there! If you are bringing your g-friend then Kite Beach is a better bet unless you want to have all the hookers swarming you like little Pirahnas! Think she might get a little turned off by that.

Hi Jason,

If you look for a cheap vacation (with lots of yanks and canuks with kids surrounding you), Puerto Plata has the BIG All-Inclusive resort.
The owner of the Cabarete "Kitebeach Hotel" kite school opened a kite school there a few years ago and asked us to come with him to attract new potential students.
Kiting was ok there. It was like a big lagoon with flat water. But there were also lots of swimmers and a shitload full of those daytrip boats and yachts you have to cruise around.

Sosúa- good if you are a single, looking for a hot water bottle for the night.

Cabarete itself might be a bit boring if your girl doesn't kite.

It all depends how old and how flexible you guys are.

Cheers

Hi Jason,

I guess you will be more happy to stay close to Cabarete not only because of beeing next to the kiteaction also because of the vibe and atmosphere. Cabarete really has its own little charm and you can feel that laidback vibe here and life is dominated by the watersports. Puerto Plata is like a bigger city and Sosua quite a sextourism town.
We have a small apartment hotel at the beautiful wavesurfing beach playa encuentro which is only 1km away from Kitebeach. If you already know how to kite and you like to kite in waves, this is the best spot. We get a lot of couple here and the place is really nice and very relaxed. In the morning and on the "no wind days" you can always go surfing. Have a look at our website if you want and let us know if you have any questions.

Hi Jason,

Tons of options at extreme Cabarete as well to keep your non kitesurfing girlfriend happy. Daily yoga, fitness classes, jiu jitsu training and even a flying trapeze - right on world famous kite beach at a fantastic price.

We have a bunch of no kitesurfing girlfriends who keep themselves busy which makes for a happier trip for you ~

Another good Cabarete option for non-kiting partners is the new Millennium Resort. It's pretty luxurious and has a great swimming pool overlooking the kiting.

Here is a link to some neat panoramas

Of course I am biased as it's the home of my kitesurfing school as well, but it is a totally gorgeous property!

Good Winds,

Laurel
