Super sad news for the snowkite community, Rachel Miller has moved on and is closing down Stormboarding. Many good wishes and thanks to her for organizing snowkiting up here in VT and especially for the Kitestorm. This however, puts the regular attendees of the late February kitefest without an organized function. Not sure about you all but I looked forward to this event every year as it was growing in size every year and had a great vibe. I was wondering if there was still local and regional interest in somehow continuing the tradition Rachel created? Any sponsors or known possibilities?

Good luck and fair winds to Rachel as she moves on (probably with her sailing project)

Anyway, I just thought it would be worth mentioning that the WISSA 2012 event will be in late Feb in St. Ignace (MI) and could be an epic event to fill in the void until someone can get another Vermont based event going.

I have'nt checked her site but is she getting out of the kite business and shutting down her fastest speed of the week site? Kitestorm was such a big fun event , just getting there was an adventure , it will be sorely missed by me and my kids! IT WAS A GREAT RIDE , GOOD LUCK RACHEL!!!!!!!!

I haven't attended the event she put on, but I have heard nothing but great things about it and her. Best of luck Rachel!

Living on the other side of Lake Champlain, I have found that the Tug Hill event Martin Luther King weekend(Jan 14-16) is fantastic! Their is chatter of big sponsors coming in this year and Mass Kiting is assisting in the logistics. Here is a website to the event:
http://lewiscountyrecreation.com/depart ... kiting.htm
I know it's a little further to the west for many, but the wind and snow are plentiful! Well worth the trip!

Any other kiters in the north eastern corner of NY? Always looking for fellow riders close by...

Cheers!

Joe

We all wish Racheal the best of luck.
What has to be done to perserve this great event? It would be a shame to loose it. Let us know here what we can do to help.

I haven't been to any of the Kitestorm events, but I have been participating in the speed rankings. Is there any other organization that is keeping track of kite speeds on ice? If not, maybe we could start a thread or a special forum here.

Tug hill is definitely a great option.

http://tughillsnowkiting.com/rally

We found out about kitestorm a month or so ago and I think it has spurred everyone involved in Tug Hill to make even bigger and better to help fill the void this leaves. Obviously Lewis County is no Burlington VT however the conditions at Tug are EPIC and we have a ton of great plans and sponsors coming out this year.

There has been some talk on Masskiting about trying to revive kitestorm or at least start up a similar event as this was such a popular, and great tradition. If any VT kiters have any insight or are looking to get this done send me an email, eric.j.fernandez@gmail.com and we can see what we can come up with together. I know what Rachel is leaving to do is a worthy cause and it would be great to keep her event going.
