Does your swivel work, or is it a FAD?

As above, does anyones fancy above the bar line swivel actually prevent centre line twist. I'm particularly interested in the new Wainman ceramic do dah that I keep hearing about...does it really work???

Got a Wainman Smoke 9m, and the swivel on the center lines does work, I think when they get really twisted it moves, but sometimes that last twist (I'm a bit A.R. about such things) I have to reach up and tidy it a bit. But it's easy to reach it and twist it if you want. So yeah, it works. Haven't tried the new bar yet.

I guess the new swivel must be an improvement. I saw it on a kiteboarder magazine video, man that thing spins silky smooth!

My rpm swivel worked great for a few sessions. Now i reach up and unwind by hand.
If i would learn tricks on both tacks would'nt be an issue.Oh well.

How difficult is it to get to the bearing in your swivel ?
Some use sealed bearings, but the covers are removable and
you can clean them with Denatured alcohol and a tooth-brush,
(preferably belonging to someone else) .
OR
replace the bearing.

I also ride the Wainman kites and the swivel on my bar did not work at all. But I landed up just changing the swivel to the one from Switch kites. I rode them briefly and the swivel worked pretty good, and its close to the same design too, so I just ordered one and changed it out. I think it was $7.00 plus shipping. Easy to do and works good too. The new Wainman bar swivel must be an improvement over the last one. but I have no hands on experience with it yet.

I've used just about every above bar swivel and they all stick at some point. I prefer a chicken loop that will swivel to untwist lines.

I've been using a Core ESP bar (similar to the Flysurfer bar) and I really like it...it works every time. It takes a little getting used to but it's very reliable. I've never had a problem with sand or anything else crusting it up. The new Core bar is a quite different, but they may still be offering the ESP bar.

Lube it every few sessions. I've had great luck with Triflow teflon lube - I had one swivel on my OR bar that wasn't swivelling smoothly, and after a little lube, it worked perfectly for a week in Maui. Not a single twist, despite lots of mismatched rotations and kite loops, and that's with the stock Ocean Rodeo stainless steel bushing swivel.
