I am very new to kiting, I received this kite new drop shipped from hq. After laying it out in the field I noticed that a few of the lines on the red side of the kite were crossed and binding when the kite was launched causing it to dive to the my left as soon as the kite gets inflated. I untangled the lines, unhooked, and re hooked every thing in the right place one at a time. The kite still dives to the left. could this have been due to low wind? I didnt want to go out on a gusty day being new to this. I thought an easy day learning how to fly would have been a good idea.

Learning to fly on a 12m? Sounds like an easy way to get seriously injured. If i were you i might rethink what i was doing.

Ditto snobdr. Please describe what you have been flying to prepare for your big kite so that I may chastise you properly. With that kite , in that size, it will take a very small increase in wind speed to create a huge increase in power and lift. How are your kite flying skills while you are air borne? How are your crashing back to the ground skills, do you get real tense, do you put your arms out to stop the crash, can you reach the top hat while rolling or being dragged across the ground? There are lots of learning opportunities with a big kite , some of which are best learned on something smaller!

sophat34, it's a very big kite , not for beginer. Take lesson first, you will kill yoursalfe with this size of kite.

You have a bridle trouble, i ride HQ montana for a long time and this kite fly just right.

Take lessons and the teacher will help you with the bridles setup.

Call the retailer or the shop who sold it to you. They have an obligation to make sure the kite is in working order and you understand how it works.

Have you done your time on a trainer kite yet? If not... get one from somewhere and work out the bugs before you launch the big guy again.

Based on your post it doesn't sound like you've done much home work here. If you're gonna learn on your own you'll wannna do lots of home study to keep from damaging your gear or your self or even worse someone else.

Trial and error is good in a lot of sports but in kiting the errors can get expensive and a little dangerous in the early stages.

What size trainer kite would you recommend for me, keep in mind i am usually around 260lbs depending on the sport season. I will take some pics and try to figure out how to post them here.
I did have a safety harness on and was tied off to the bumper of the truck with a helmet to help keep my self in place. Thanks for the concern by the way.

Dude...take a lesson this is one of the scarest thing you can do, the kite makes enough power to hurt you very badly while tied of to any thing. Even enough power to rip off your bumper while using your body as a stressed member. That 12 pulls as hard as your truck if you know how to use it.....no one wants you to get hurt,,,lessons ASAP!!
