I have this old 2000 AHD wild wave board gathering dust in my garage and looking at recent race shapes i have been itching to cut it up and make a kite raceboard out of it.
Something like this:
I don't really intend to start racing so the idea is more to end up with a freerace board than can be fun to use on flatwater or light wind days.
I'm thinking of a tri-fin (for cost reasons) for which i can use the US box on the board with a freeride fin that i have and then only buy two powerbox fins and boxes for the side fins.
So what's the general opinion and what advice can you give me on this crazy venture?

it is a bit of a job but it can be done it all depends on the bottom shape and the rocker if after u cut it off it is flat about 8 inches in front of the front footstraps then it may work well cut off rear with a hand pull saw it is sharp cheep and easy dont round corners cut it straight across go with 2 fins 7 inches to the center from the rear i use windsurfer pointer fins about 9 inches long noe foot strap in the rear in the center forward of the fins just glass across the rear put t nuts galv. for the footstraps it is taking a chance but since u have the board it can all be done very cheap and it will be a learning experience toward building your real freerace board post if u need help with anything i have said as i am sometimes confusing to others best of luck most important just try cause riding your own thing is AWSOME

if you haven't started yet, you might want to consider chopping a bit off the nose too. I am little worried about the rocker line.
otherwise

Bump.
Did you proceed with this project? Many of us have all windsurf boards and might be interested in doing the same...

How did your board turn out? I did essentially the same thing and mine turned out pretty well.
