The La Ventana classic started yesterday with the long distance race from Cerralvo Island which is about 10 miles offshore back to La Ventana.
Contestants take a boat ride over to the island early in the morning then we all start very close to the island with a boat start and then reach back across the bay to La Ventana. Winds were around 15 to 22 kts with kite sizes ranging from 9-12m for most riders.
Tyson Poor (windsurf) won by a few feet over Johnny Heineken, with Brian Lake, Damien Leroy,
Paolo Rista 4th, Julien Kerneur and Rob Douglas 5th and 6th, Adam Koch, Alex Aguera 8th.
The top women was Erika Heineken.
Jim Bison actually kited all the way across with a pair of water skis and did pretty well.
The top eight kiters were all of race boards except for Damien who was on his slalom board.
A few heats of Old School Big Air were done down at Baja Joes after the long distance race before the wind died out for the day.
Today the winds are very light this morning and we are hoping for the usual afternoon winds to arrive.
