When i got my second hand speed 3 the bar and lines were pretty worn and i didn't like some of its features so i decided to shoehorn one of my ozone lei bars onto the kite.

I used the standard 50cm lei bar and added a landing strop between the steering lines. The landing strop makes landing/relaunching alot easier. you can also slap the strop on a post or teather in higher winds. it makes for alot less tangles and kite flapping about than trying to flag it out solo on the beach.

The ozone bar has more depower at the bar but less at the trim strap. The overall adjustment is the same however. Makes for it easier to control in gusty winds and some crazy upwind angles are possible. It also has a cleaner safety and cheap replacable elastised safety line through the bar. The depower rope is covered in rubber so wear is alot less.

The disadvantage? its a shorter bar which makes turning a tad slower. I'll be upgrading to a 54cm ozone bar shortly.

Over all i'm very happy with the mod.

Is that setup with a FDS or FLS? It looks like the 5th line has a stopper which limits the travel of the line through the bar. Does that affect the safety?

i put an Ozone bar on my speed2 15m also,
there is no 5th line on that kite
the safety throw away line (relaunchable) runs up to the left or right leading edge power linr

yeah as Vin said. speed 3 runs a front line safety not a fifth line.

ps safety works sweet. infact better than original as there's less chance for snags... and easier/cheaper to replace worn parts. so your more likely to change them regularily.

Can you explain the "landing strop" or whatever more? I've seen it before and always wondered what exactly it does, is it easier to just grab that to reverse launch or something?

I put the Ozone CL on the earlier FSer bars but really don't like the side-pull... otherwise, I like the Infinity bar - all it really needs is the thrust bearing mod and it's sweet!

About that landing strop - I can see how it would make it easier to backstall the kite through the power window to self-land it. Does the landing strop have any drawbacks? Looping the kite is still fine, right?

yeah its easier to reverse land it through the powerzone. reverse launching is also a sinch. Another advantage is you can lasoo it to a fixed point and walk down and flage the kite yourself. If you feel like a rest or need to use both hands for an extended time you can landing on the strop. then hook the strop around your chicken loop. the kite will stay landed until you finish your business.

You also can reverse land land with one hand if need be.

disadvantage?... i have had the strop line catch on the clam cleat momentarily before. but have had no i'll effects because of it.
