South Pacific Destinations

Postby Livia » Mon Feb 13, 2012 12:53 am

Where to go?

We're taking our 35' sailboat into the S Pacific and are gathering information on kite spots before leaving Mexico in a few weeks. We're relatively new kiteboarders so we aren't looking for epic waves or kiting in atoll passes. We may spend several seasons sailing (and kiting) in the area.

If you have any favorite locations, we would love to hear about them. If they aren't for public consumption, I would love to hear about them in a PM. We promise not to reveal any secret spots later.

Obviously we will be doing our own exploring - and perhaps we'll have some remote spots to report on in a few months.

Thanks for any help, Livia

Well, we've been traveling with our saiboat and kiting in French Polynesia for 1.5 years since this post and we have developed some of our own favorite kiting spots. Here are 3 French Polynesian atolls we love:

Mostly aerial footage with a GoPro on a kite but some with a Lumix waterproof ashore.

We have been checking pretty thoroughly with our boat! ;)

But I haven't used splocs before. Interestingly in French Polynesia they only have locations in the Society Islands so I should log in and add our Tuamotus favorites. Rangiroa is really a dream.

In case someone stumbles across this from a search, here are 4 great spots in Tonga in the South Pacific with lat/longs:

La orana Livia,
Nice to read your blog.
I fell in love with Fr Polynesia years ago, and it is hard to find a place prettier, better than Eden.
One island is different. Rapa nui is one you should not miss.
It s overwhelming pure.
Save journeys ;)
