Not sure la nina affects us unless it messes with global weather patterns, but our season started super strong for about a month, 20-30 knots several days a week, and now we're lucky to get one or two 15 knot days a week. Don't remember the last time I pumped up anything other than a 12m.
Our season is supposed to be on until May or so as well, so I feel your pain :/

It seems to be working out for Cuba, this year seems to be the best I've heard about. Lots of 8m days which is not normal there.

the last two years January was bad in NE Brazil...this year it looks like it is back to normal with nice winds! So there I would rather say La Nina/o is over.

Toby, the current La Nina is weakening now but it is still affecting the weather in Australia, at least according to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
In East and Southeast Asia it has been another weird northeast monsoon season. Is it because of the La Nina? Maybe, but I don't really know.

Most of the US has had extremely warm weather this year. I usually kite 2 or 3 times in January and February here in Virginia Beach because I don't usually go out when the air temps are below 45 F. This year I got 13 sessions in Januray alone. Many with air temps in the high 50's F to Low 60's F. Average highs for the day are supposed to be around 45 F for January and February.
I'm guessing this is La Nina based
The wind hasn't been anything great, but I'd much rather kite 15 knots and 55F degrees, than 25 knots and 35F degrees.

You guys in the US are also affected by the North Atlantic and the Arctic Oscillation which is apparently in a very unusual phase hence the weather. We in the South Pacific are also apparently affected by the Pacific Decadal Oscillation which is apparently increasing the probability of La Nina. It's all pretty confusing. It seems to me over the last few years that we have less windy days but more extreme events. Is that climate change or just part of the current weather pattern?

La Nina generally causes our season to start late and finish early. The windy season is still good, fewer 30+ days though. last year i only had my 6m out a handful of times the whole season. I can use it a few times a month in a regular year.
Last years La Nina we had sensational off season kiting - this year nothing.
If the wind comes late it will be a vey long wait for a kite.
this is for papua new guinea.

interesting, the real windy days are probably 30% compared to the last last 10 years here (nz). My 6 and 8m are sooo crispy still
