What size Rebel would you say is equivalent to the 10m Dyno? Is the 10m Dyno equivalent to the 13m Rebel as the wind range charts are saying?

I've ridden the 10m 2011 Dyno several times now. I was able to go down to about 10 or 12 knots (I'm guessing), riding my raceboard alongside a guy on an Infinity with a twintip. Then the wind completely died pretty suddenly and both of our kites fell out of the sky at the same time.

In other sessions though with very choppy conditions and a twin tip I wasn't impressed with the low end. When I couldn't keep the speed up in the chop and waist high waves, I'd say the usable low end is more like 15 knots. I guess that's typical for a high aspect kite though? (I'm 165 lbs was on Mako King and Mako 140)

Hey Toby. I know you have a lot of experience with big kites, e.g. Rhino 2 and 6 20m and Flysurfer. From what I've seen and heard, the Dyno 18 is the pick of the current batch of light wind kites. I'm interested to know what you think of it compared to previous and other big kites you've tried.

well, the other kites are "old"...development stepped further, so of course the Dyno is better than the former kites. The Rhino2 20 was unreached for many years (besides the Speed 19 which came close), but the Dyno has the same performance than the R2 20 reg. hangtime and lift. But since it is a race kite, it goes better upwind, and has less downwind pull. And it turns faster. The range is also better.

But I didn't test many big kites, so I cannot compare...I am sure other big kites are good too. I got my ass kicked by Rolf van der Vlugt at the boardoff comp last year at PKRA Thailand, where only one trick counted with 70% height...Rolf was on a 17m lightwind race kite from Airush...I was on my Rebel 2010 16. Rolf won...the biggest kite jumped the highest !

So, go demo different kites and see which is the best for you!

Toby,

I also have a Dyno 18 and love it. But, for sure, you can help me...

I can get great hang time but not as high as on my smaller kites (EVOs 10 and 14). How do you jump the Dyno, as it is bigger and slower? Do you pull stronger? Do you pass the kite from zenith? In which position do you start the pull, at 10 or 11 (or... 1 or 2)?

Thanks, :thumb:

Anyone get some time on the 2012 Dyno yet? I saw them in the background pictures of the ISAF trials and the one youtube video, but I haven't seen any reviews yet.

Sorry moco, I missed that one!

I rather send it from 10:30. And even in light wind I get a pretty good height.
Do you have a small board? Maybe you cannot edge that hard, so you will loose height...
