Hi all,

I am thinking on extending my quiver to a LW kite. Right now I have a Bandit 5 12m2 and a North Rebel 10m2. I had a Zephyr 2010 but I sold it out since it was quite slow, in my opinion.

Now I am thinking on:
- Zephyr 2012
- Dyno 2012 12m2
- Slingshot Turbine
- Core Riot LW
- or any other...

Which one would you recommend? why?

Thanks in advance

Hi. These are all light wind kites. Their low ends are as follows:

Zephyr 2012 9-10 knots
Flysurfer 21m 8-9 k
Dyno 2012 8-9k
Epic Infinity 9-10k

* Low end = consistently staying upwind on 7'2" mini mal.

Not sure about the others.

you have also the Blade Fat-Lady

it´s a 17m and it´s really fast to a 17m kite, i compare the turning speed with a 13/14m from other brands, about low end, you can have a great session with 8knots, but you can kite with only 6 knots.

make a search in google by reviews from the kite, you have a lot, and you have also some magazine reviews...

I've ridden the Dyno 16 & 18, Infinity(prototype 1G), Turbine, and Fat Lady. The winner for me was the "Fat Lady." :thumb: You should put that one on your list of kites to try.

Turns faster than any big kite I've ever flown and does not have that "Truck" feel that a lot of big kites have. Excellent drift, upwind ability, and a lighter feel at the bar. I use it primarily with a 5' 11" fish and this combo is a blast to play around in the surf on a light wind day. It's the only big kite I've had sucess going down-the-line on a side-on light wind day. Most big kites just don't turn fast enough. I've been really happy with it since I've purchased it 5 months ago and to me it's the light wind kite to beat. Good luck with search :D

Note: I use a 23 in Slingshot bar w/ 27m lines(stock bar for Turbine). The Blade stock bar and lines are bit too short in my opinion. The 23 in bar seems to speed up the turning a bit.

I'd like to put the Fluid 17m Light Air into the suggestion box. It would definitely not be in the "fast" category, but extremely good low end and scary powerful. :thumb:

Here's some details and a relaunch video showing the 5th line relaunch.

Why are you just talking about Kites if you want a light wind discussion? There is more to riding light wind than your kite size. Air pressure and all the different effects of the wind i.e. gradient wind. All so current is the big killer for light wind. Board is actually more important than the kite for LW. What is light to one person might not be light to another all so. I consider light to be when I can ride but still have to send my kite land anything on my 13 fuel. Yeah I can ride and do tricks but it's not the same as when I'm powered up and can keep the kite low. It all so depends on how long I've been off the water for I'll be happy with 10-15 fighting it after a month of no wind over the summer but in prime season I won't even waste my time blowing up in that.

So my point is why you just asking about kites again? I say learn to ride what you got as light as possible or try skim or race board and go lighter. They are both cheaper than a huge kite.
