That being said, the current situation shows that he was not well prepared. I hope he lives and can learn from it. This is his second night at sea. How much better can you prepare? he is wearing a suit, sending GPS singnals relaunching kite during the day. What? the wind died how can you predict that. Escort? Even at America's Cup sailors die nobody has a budget to follow everybody to the sea. Then maybe he should not have kited. It's actually quite simple. Did he check in with the Saudi coast guard before? There are complaints that the Saudis can't decipher his coordinates. That e.g. Would have been a simple thing to check beforehand. Again, I hope he lives and learns.

just be respectful. There are always people doing more extreme things...preparation is important, and from what I have heard, he did all necessaries to overcome an emergency situation. But what happens if you trust technology and other people? This can fail...no matter how muhc you prepared.
Jumping over a peer is also crazy...but someone did it and nothing happened...could have gone very wrong as well.
It is the people's risk, not up to us to judge it. Let them do it...they know the risk, and if things go wrong, then that's life...your launch of the kite could go wrong too...no matter how cautious you are...a line could break...
So, show respect and just hope he will be fine..nothing else is needed!!!
any update???

He didn't send any signal in 5.5 hrs. Maybe he thinks they called it off for the night. Also the air is only 14C, the water is 20C. I can imagine he is trying to stay warm. How do you find him if he is not on the top of his board at night. It's a tough situation all around.

This is unfortunate, I hope he is found alive. I'm kind of blown away that they have not found him yet given that he is broadcasting a signal. I thought those emergency devices transmitted a gps location in real time it seems like he is pinging his location?

I hope he's found alive.
Kind of defeats the purpose of having a GPS signalling device if nobody comes to find you after you send an SOS! I suppose the rescue response varies country to country but I know the USCG would be out there with multiple helicopters and a fleet of boats as soon as they were notified of the signal. I have seen it first hand.
I'm sure we are not getting all the information in this thread, and I wish him the best and that he's in a warm dry place right now relaying his story to loved ones.

I hope that he's already safe but surely the Polish equivalent of the Coast Guard are involved in helping coordinate finding him...? The UK version has often coordinated searches for lost British sailors overseas. I think 'official' channels open up easier that way. They can also help get the message out to commercial shipping and military shipping in the area too.

the polish SAR (search and rescue) helps with coordination, and confirmed, that 16 ships and 1 helicopter are searching for him. But...why don't they find him if they have the GPS info? Just weired...

There is a 10000$ reward for the crew that finds Jan. It is confirmed by people responsible for the whole operation. Please spread this information where you can.
