Board Bag -- 6 twin tips in one?

Postby juice2012 » Thu Mar 08, 2012 2:02 am

Can anyone offer suggestions on a board bag that can accommodate say, 5-6 boards? (bindings and fins would be off). I'm traveling with friends and rather than all get dinged $100 for oversized bags, we figured we'd put all our boards in the one bag, and put kites/gear in with our luggage. It would need to fit at a minimum 150cm x ~50cm, but if you know of anything longer that would be useful, as there could be a Door in the mix if it fits (165cm).

Something like the DaKine World Traveler Surfboard Coffin but smaller for twin-tips would be great; Dakine SX could work but not sure if 20cm height will accommodate all the boards. The epic transporter looked interesting as an option, but it's max size is 148cm.

Wheels not critical, but useful.

By the way, I realize we could all try golf bags and sneak the gear through but i've found most golf bags don't accommodate big boards anyways...

Thanks!

I got a North bag that is a 160 but I put my 170cm door in it fine. It's huge and you'll get 6 boards in there no issues. Probably with straps/pads on too :o

Thanks Kamikuza, did you get the Quiverbag or the Combibag? I'll have to see if my local North dealer carries either of these...

Mines just black and white (probably 2009/10 model) but it looks more like the Quiver bag in construction...
If the actual length is 170cm though, that explains why I can get the monster Door in there easily
Wheels are a must too - I put 2 boards, 2 kites, bars, wetsuit etc and it weighed just under 32kg and was a bit awkward... much easier to drag it around than try to man-handle it!

I took fins and pads/straps off on the way to where I was going to keep the dimension down under the "sports gear" limit... on the way home, I left the pads/straps on but it was still under the limit and - there was still plenty of room in there :o

There's 2 compartments in the quiver bag - that zip around the middle splits them. There's a padded layer in the bottom to separate boards (and padding in the bottom) and a little bag for wetsuits which is actually pretty handy.

any boardbag would do in my opinion! 6 boards flat over each other? easy! Make sure to wrap clothes or harnesses around it to protect the edges!

any maybe get a golf bag, and put few clubs in...maybe it flies for free ;-)

A board and big bag is a must when travel, because we have too many things to take, hope you will find an ideal bag soon, I want one as well, then we can discuss about it later. :D :D :D

I really like the

You wont put in the 165cm though. The 150 will fit no problem. I had a fifty pro 150 X 48 and it did fit in. I actually think it is the one that looks the most like a real golf bag.

PS: I call in advance to book for my golf bag. Last trip in Cuba some of my friends had to pay 100$ both ways, and I passed with my golf bag no problem. They never asked me any questions. 5 trips so far.

If weight isn't an issue, most bags with wheels (over 150) will do. These bags are about 3-5 pounds heavier but definitely more solid. The boards don't take much room but the bindings are another story. Go in a shop and try it there has they have plenty of boards usually.
