You got it.. the wind window moves and shifts all over the place...
I'm doing some pendulum Jumps here... as it shifts...

Once I understood the wind window and how it changes while moving with the kite (the apparent wind against the kite), it makes sense now.

If you want to visualize wind window I hope my tool helps you

http://www.jori.ws/kite_vectors/

You should see something like attached image
- white arrow is apparent wind
- green arrow is board direction
- true wind is always bottom to top

Joriws:

Thanks for the link, Joriws. I enjoyed using your program. Also, check Foilzone in the Infinity Bar Pimping thread; I inquired with your concerning your cylinders on the Speed3 kites.

Axelrider:

Thank you for taking the time to type up your response.

Kami:

Thanks for the link.

Let us know when you've got your program back that includes the Speed3.
What L/D values were you taking for high and low aspect ratio tube kites?
It seems the value you took was not better than 4. I believe even tubes have far better L/D than that.
L/D of Speeds much approach that of paragliders (8+).

Afterthought: perhaps you are integrating the fact the kite's pull is not horizontal, yet another factor that should be taken into account.

Hi,

as you're talking about the shifting wind window, there's also this website with some interesting pics.

Actually "openness" of wind window is not calculated because I could not find any formula for it. Also sea current, board, snowboard, skis are not modelled as this is mainly ww rotation visualization tool.

So clicking HI-AR and LOW-AR only changes gradient of approx usable wind window. There were some discussion about gradients when I built the tool.

But like said there are so many variables..
