Hi all, need some help with this one.

So we are getting married in Sept and although we are then heading to Portugal immediately after for a week to one of our favorite spots we are looking to spend our honeymoon somewhere special. We both love the waves and ride regular stance so prefer right handers with cross/off shore winds.

Somewhere warm/tropical somewhere like Zanzibar/Indo

Sometime between November and February

any suggestions?

Have a look at the Little Cayman topic on here to see all the recent photos. It is wonderful and warm with great wind too. We offer really nice accomodation at www.sunsetcovelittlecayman.com

Little Cayman looks sweet from the photos, but I have a few questions.

It is the kind of place where you can walk from your room with your kite and board and self launch from a beach? Or as a kiter are you more dependent on staff to take you somewhere by land or by boat and pick you up when you are done? Is it a water launch only kind of place or can you launch a kite from the sand?

I like being able to wander out whenever I want and come in whenever I want without depending on rides or support.

Also, is the lower price for kiters a "bro deal" or is it because kiters pay an extra fee somewhere for kiting or lessons.

Thanks for the info...and whether your place works for me or not, you have a beautiful spot there!

John

Hi John

Good to hear from you. The beach is not really ideal to launch from as it is offshore and super gusty conditions which are quite dangerous. We use a floating pontoon which you can see from the dock in the middle of the sound. We have had kiters Kayak out to it and back. A couple of kiters i had at he end of their season walked back as it is only waist height or so. As i am out there every day hitching a lift is no problem in the boat to the pontoon. I will time the run in the boat but it is less than 5 mins. You can pretty much come and go as you please.

The cheaper price for the rooms is a complete bro deal. We want to encourage kiters to come out here and share what we have. If people coming out here cant stay unpwind then i do make a charge to cover the gas to pick people up from Owen island which is an uninhabited island in the sound.

Other than that its all yours. Hope this helps if you have any further questions let me know. It is an amazing island and an experience you both wouldnt forget.
Regards
Paul

Hi Paul,

thanks for the info man. We have been following Dimitri's visit there and checking all the cool photo's.

What are the waves like out on the reef, direction of swell/wind etc as ideally we'd like cross-cross off from the right.

ps. Could not agree more with your comment about thinking you could already jump..till you tried the Screamer, love those kites when totally lit!

Thanks Paul,

Great information, sounds really nice. Will give it some thought when I get some time.

Enjoy,

Hi there

Just posted a video on the Little cayman forum post so have a look to check out what is looks like really captured the vibe of the place.

I havnt tried the waves on the other side of the reef but the main direction of the wind would be cross shore to the waves on the reef. The reef itself is flat and you can walk on it. It has rocks on top of it but not part of the reef.

Man those screamers punch above their weight

Hope that helps

Regards

Paul

if you're looking for proper upmarket places I'd spend my honeymoon at that time of year:

- Cap Est Lagoon Resort in Martinique, beautiful rooms and food, launch is right outside, but its flat water (very very flat!) only. Its a really nice place though....Michelin star restaurant, private swimming pools etc.....wind is VERY reliable Dec - Mar. You'll feel like a rock star despite no waves.....if its good enough for the owner of Carrefour (who hogged the heli for the whole time I was last there, its good enough for me)

- Four Seasons Kudu Huraa (sp?) in the Maldives....you can't go somewhere nicer....forget kitesurfing (although oddly its the first place I ever saw somebody doing it in 2002).....proper world class waves 10 minutes away in the boat. Way more fun than kitesurfing.....teach your lady to do that instead! But waves run out by November end......
