... ahh ha, I see. I actually wanted to get the surf fins (or rather the free ride swept back ones) for the V2, is that possible?

Thanks again,

cheers,

Robbie

Hi Robbie,

It is possible but may or may not be the most cost effective. The standard tri fin configuration on the Sector V3 54 is mini tuttle which would fit on your V2 no problem, but it is a tri fin so exploring the idea of getting 2 sets and saving the center fins for a rainy day is a possibility.

Asking your local retailer would be the best.

If the concern is fin choice, I've used the NSP MIni Tuttle adapters to go FCS. For me, it was about weeds and weed fins. I lost some upwind for sure, but I gained overall due to letting the weeds slide off.

Thanks,

... ok, so looks like if I want to fit the swept back fins I'll require 4 of the 20 cm with the 5 degree cant or 2 of the 20cm and 2 of the 17cm straight up/down.

Well, if I get 2 of the rear (single) fin option, does anyone got an opinion how the straight up/down or 0 degree cant will perform, especially with the 5 degree 20 cm fins.

Thanks again,

Robbie :)

I purchased a 52 V2 a few weeks ago as a light wind cruising machine not knowing a V3 would be coming out so soon (had I or the dealer known I would have waited). The 52 V2 drives upwind in light wind like no other board I have ridden and it is scary fast running down wind. I would like to loosen it up for smoother gybing (heelside/toeside).

Outside of selling my V2 and buying a new V3, (costly) is it practical to add a fifth fin box to my 52 V2?

Thanks,
Nik

I did find the 52 V2 a little over finned for my tastes, and preferred smaller fins. You can shave a few cm off yours if you are feeling adventurous... you loose upwind but do gain manoeuvrability.. It is a great board.

We have a V3 sample board in the UK, just arrived.. 54.. I managed to blah it from the surf expo in germany..
Fins will be coming next week.. as soon as I get a chance I'll have it out in the sea breezes we have had over here..

I'd be reluctant to add another fin box, because you'll also need at least another fin, if not a whole set to make it work. Fin sets used to go for $300 from Airush. All of this could make the mod more expensive than selling/buying a new one.
Perhaps you could try to put smaller fins forward and add surfing fins on the back to see if that gives you improvement you are looking for.
I have an old V1 52 and adding back fin box was the first thing that came to my mind when seeing V3 in action. But cost of fin set might discourage me ...

The option is there for the new V3's of both, but to be honest I think that I may well prefer 4 smaller fins as opposed to three larger.
I have endless debates with myself in surfboards and I have been using a lot of different shapes and fin configs lately. For snappy aggressive handling it's 4 fins all the way, though 3 is more efficient, broadly speaking.

My own value in sector usage is the efficiency, which compared to a normal board is so far off the scale that I feel I'm going to prefer 4 fins to make the board snappy as opposed to 3 larger..
The sample board I have here I *think* it is all mini tuttle, and so I will try a set of last years V2 52 as well when the stock fins arrive.

My advice would be to find a buyer for yours in time and when you get the full lowdown on V3 decide which way you want to go. I also have a Choptop 5'8 light wind coming soon - a board I have always wanted to try. Efficient surfboard at 60cm wide... wonder how it will compare to the sectors... I doubt it will go anywhere near as early and I wonder how close the V3 54 will be to it in carving..

I do enjoy riding in these winds especially if there is some groundswell..

Robbie,

I used weed fins on the Sector V1 and V1.5. They helped, but our local inland lake level was low last summer and nothing worked. I tried the FCS adapters with a couple of different fins and found that they worked even better for weeds, but I did lose some upwind ability. I bought FK-2 fins which are about as big as a FCS fin as I could find with a lot of sweep. I'm no surfer, but I think I did feel flex in the fin.
