But for a school and becoming an instructor it means they will pay less, I guess?
Do you have min. Requirements to become an instructor?
Every IKO instructor will get a KSA license? What about quality control? The sport needs experienced and safety orientated instructors!!! And make the QR the key of all courses!!! Sure Toby, but the QR needs to be the same or almost identical on every kite. Mini 5ths that don't fully depower the kite don't coun't as a safety system. The system has to depower the kite90%+ whether its single front line, double front line, or 5th line. Until the industry adopts a standard design, we are a joke as far as teaching safety, and safely.

Does not make a difference in how to release. That should be first thing taught, not where the kite flies or how to pump a kite! I see daily people not releasing, when they should...so make that goal number in of your lessons, goal two would be riding!

Toby wrote: Does not make a difference in how to release. Sorry, but it does. If all kite depowering systems operate slightly differently and look different, then this creates confusion in the minds of kiters, confusion leads to mistakes and at least hesitation, and we all know the outcome of inaction. Toby wrote: That should be first thing taught, not where the kite flies or how to pump a kite!
Again, the first thing that needs to be learned is how to fly a kite, so many schools and instructors, as well as many competent kiters, promote just grabbing a large kitesurfing kite and learning the necessary kite flying skills with a kite that not only has the ability to kill the operator but also nearby innocent people. That is one of the most stupid ideas that is continuing to be promoted!!! FIRST we should teach that kite flying skill comes before anything else. Then we teach the safety response and how to disable the real sized kitesurfing kite. Toby wrote: I see daily people not releasing, when they should...so make that goal number in of your lessons, goal two would be riding! You are not alone Toby in this observation, this problem is happening all over the world and the blame must squarely rest with the teachers of the sport, and the manufacturers for not adopting a universal safety system.

first how to activate the quick release, then how to fly a kite and more...
basically it is the same release, no? (besides F-one and few others, shame on them) then how it flags it can be different, that is a different story.

Well here we go...
First off Toby, please click that button and unlock my user name...
It's just not right to have me posting under poor king of whatever's name....
Just bust a move Bitch!! (term of endearment) ---------------------------------------- Now to the point....
You have cockpower (hi ol' pal) claiming standardization is what's needed...
Then you have Toby telling it like it is....there's no, or not enough awareness of when to act...
yeah that's whats needed!!!
to quote myself, "you either see it coming or you take the hit"
So here's the deal...Instructors don't teach, they just talk---after 20 minutes it's just so much blah blah blah,,,(and they [the innocent] are thinking just shut up and let me fly that bitch)
And why would they think different? as we all know it's all good right up to when it isn't,
then it's just too late.
You're a victim....
Let's talk instruction....The kite teaches, it teaches lessons you do not forget, it has a way of driving the point home...
There is no replacement for actually seeing what a kite about to go bad looks like---and feeling just how impressive the power is...
So ok, you need to know what about to go bad looks like, that takes experience, and that experience can save your life....
Where should one acquire this experience?
On the beach maybe? no that don't sound good how about in the shallows right next to the beach where the swimmers and children dabble about? where they fill their little buckets with sand for their castles??
Is that a good place for an innocent to be introduced to a runner????
No, not very smart...
What venue does that leave for kite training?
Yup deep water....
The way to teach respect for the beach, the way to get the point across-- that the beach is no place to fuck around with your kite----that the beach is someplace you leave as quickly and as carefully as you can..
WHY!!!
Because shit happens and if you're on the beach it's going to leave a mark..
Enough for now
Toby just bust that move..
Best Regards fokiten
The key to teaching safety is to teach respect for the kite and it follows like night the day---that respect for the beach is paramount--WHY???
becuase the beach is where you are most likely to die.
Make them earn the right to launch from the beach---it's no place to start...
Screw a bunch of sand swamis...

KSA= kite SAFE association.....so..KIWIMIKE..where was all this SAFETY you preach when you came to the small island of KOH TAO in thailand(same area as phagnan/samui for people that didnt know)...and were trying to 'show off' your back/front rolls to all the padi dive students as they went out on their morning dive courses...you crashed you kite infront of a on-coming dive boat(SHOWING OFF), and had to cut your lines seconds before the boat drove through them..potentiality fucking their engine as the lines got tangled up in the prop..or even drowning you!!!...i seem to remember you fucked off the island pretty sharpish (on the next boat out) and left me..as the only known person that kites there explain to everyone that asked that it wasnt me and that i didnt know you.....will you be coming back?? my friend has your 2011 airush bar which was firmly attached to the bottom of his dive boat..but would like 50,000 bhat for a new engine..maybe you can take it out of your .none profit KSA'.
NOT SO SAFE KITE ASSOCIATION!!!..practice what you preach!!!

Supachip,
That sounds like the famous Kiter Militia at Bolsa a few years back, advocating safety and teaming up with lifeguards to keep unsafe people from kiting at their "home" yet some of these safety advocates were jumping over and playing slalom with surfers and swimmers.
Nothing like a little hypocrisy to keep life interesting.

Just a side note:
Beware the stoked, anyone claiming to be passionate should be viewed as a rookie...etc.
Kitesurfing is different than other "extreme" sports because it isn't that extreme, or hard for you to think
"I've got this"
and be stoked to have gotten so very very good so quickly...
The more you kite the worst it gets...(the stoke)
Do it long enough and rest assured, it's going to happen...
maybe it's that the wind is invisible? or that it comes from behind you,? or that you're working on your Madonna Grab (so unfortunate a trick)
Staying aware of the potential for danger is key...
You cannot teach respect you have to earn it...
Enough for now fokiten
