I wonder if anyone had a chance compare those two kites, I like them both, the companies seems like they have good service, they seem ok with durability, and so are the sizes (obsession has better selection Mainly my questions are based on importance 1 - which is better for boosting high and hang time, 2 - which one has pivotal or tight turning and kitelooping 3 - which one you would recommend more for waves. 4 - which one is better for unhook thingsI am sure there will be buch a pople who rode one or the other, but if anyone could compare both what is your input thanks a lot cheers David

I owned an obsession and have spent a couple of weeks flying the varial x. I'll give you my opinion soon. I just can't type right now.

Hi, ok, both are great kites and both ate built well, however I do like the Airush bar a little better quality is top notch and all it's features work really well. It just feels and looks good an your hands.
Don't worry about sizes. But have excellent range. The obsession that I owned was a 10.5m. And will cover you from 16-25kts. The varial-x that I demoed was a 9m and was good from 18-30kts. I'm 93kgs and ride a Cabrinha custom 140x42 board. With each of the kites their range allows you to only really need two kites to cover most wind ranges.
The rrd obsession turns ultra fast. It is super quick, loops pivotal and is very responsive. Bar pressure is medium.
The varial x is slower turning by comparison, list pivotal in its loops. And is slightly less responsive. Better for park and ride.
As for which is better for waves, it's hard to say. Some people like the park and ride type of surf style. Others like the super quick turning feel. However one standout feature that the obsession has is that being delta shaped. It relaunches super fast which could be a consideration if you are kiting in big waves.
The Varial x has heaps more hang time. The obsession boots bigger I felt, but drops you down a lot faster where as the varial was more floaty.
I can't comment on unhooked as I didn't unhook either of them.
You won't go wrong with either of them really. I owned the obsession for 18months and at the time loved it. By I would buy another one now. My style has changed and I like the park and ride feel and more hang time, so my next kite should be a varial x.
I hope that has helped you somewhat! Let me know if you have any more questions!

THANKS A LOT MAN, Based on what I read I feel like X Varial will be good choice. there is kite expo next week and both companies are there. If we lucky and we have wind on kite expo for once it will be easy to decide what to ride. You really help me out. I focusing more on boost and hang time. Pivoting is important but as long as I can loop it somehow fast it would be ok. I can't wait to try them. take care D.

No worries. Sorry, the iPhone predictive spelling messes up what I'm trying to say. But looks like you got the picture. I'm looking into the varial x now too for the same thing. You can speed up turning on varial x but fitting the bar extensions. I have always used smallest bar setting on Airush bars. But, using the other bar setting would definitely speed things up! Let me know what you think after you ride it as I'd like to see if your opinion is similar to mine!

For sure, I should try some next week at kite expo. I currently flying ozone edge. That is best kite for jumping and hangtime. Seriously that kite just amazes me every time is over 25mph. So forgiving but so awesome for jumps. I just wish that canopy is more durable and it loops little better. Then I would not look elsewhere. Anyway I will let you know
cheers D.

I agree with the comments on the Varial X (never flew the RRD), but I would add that the Varial X unhooks really, really well with no backstalling whatsoever. It relaunches very nicely too - as well as my Cabrinha SB's. The Varial X was a huge surprise for me, I loved flying it.

Thanks K,
how did you feel with a kite regarding downlooping, looping etc, does it have quicker and tighter turn then other kites you fly?

Varial X was much more fun to downloop, it seems to turn faster and it definitely has smoother power through the loop vice the yank you get on the SB.
