So, here I am on Boracay, Philippines.
Flat water in the morning and afternoon, when I arrived.
You would guess, coming from riding at the North Sea and Brazil, that the high tide postbones every day about 40 minutes...so at one point you will have the low tide during the day...

But not so in the Philippines! After weeks it didn't change! Same same!
So for filming my DVD I always get the choppy high tide, and my camerman gets the nice low tide in the morning, since then the light is not a the right angle...this is not fair!

I asked a local, and he told me, that during December to February the low tide is during the day...and March/April the high tide during the day.

I didn't know it is possible!

Where else are the tides this way?

Nope. Much different...though the effect usually is lower around the equator, it is not by definition highest around the poles. What influences the size or the tide is combined effects of the gravitational forces exerted by the moon and Sun and earth rotation. Other near shore influences are wind and barometric pressure changes...storms combined with high tide usually are more destructive than low tide and storms.

They have some pretty insane tides in the English channel around Guernsey and Jersey...there is a kiter from there...he has to watch the tide pretty carefully while kiting

Tides are super complicated to forecast as the factors influencing these are numerous
(continental masses, sea currents, Planet alignments, atmospherique pressure, .....)
I would think that tides would be more important close to the equator as planetary influence would be stronger there.

Cumbuco is 3 degrees south of the equator...but there the tide follows a logic...and you have two times high tide during 24 hours !

Toby, tides on Boracay like this from January — low tide in the early morning or on sunset. Last year was different story.

i'm kinda guessing here, but the dominating force for the tides there has to be the sun, instead of the moon. Then the tides will follow seasonal changes, instead of the mooncycle.

No need for guessing. Sun pull is 180 times that of the moon.....but it is tucking far away...moon still wins in the planetary tide pull competition.
