Naproxen is definitely a drug, not a health food. You don't want to take it for extended periods. Since it is over the counter, cheap, relieves pain and reduces inflamation to expedite the healing process, I think it is a good choice for tendonitis that I get early season after a day of yanking the bar to jump.

I also try to gradually increase exertion and allow my strength to increase through the season rather than try to exceed the previous years jumps at the beginning of a season. This year I haven't had tendonitis and I owe it to starting out gradually.

Hi,

I spend few hours on the net so I wanted to share the results:

For 400mg of Glucosamine per day the prices vary from 33$ to 108$per month.
Depending on tabs concentration you have to take between 4 to 16 caps.

Cheapest site for Gluco:

Vitaexpress.com, For 2 caps: 1500mg Gluco. and 1200mg Chond.
Per container: 240 Caps, 43.30$ In this case you will need to take 6 caps a day for 4500mg a box will last 40 days and the cost per month is 32.47$.

I went for another product that is liquid called SYNFLEX, I hate to swallow pills, and the better absorbtion is suppose to give faster results.
There are also a bunch of other stuff that are suppose to be beneficial.
Anyway the Gluco. amount per 1/4 OZ is less 1250mg but the absorbtion and the other stuff makes up for it.
Read the site it is pretty well made.
30 Days for 33$ thats with shipping too.

Hopefully our sores elbows will take a hike!!!!!

I wanted to know the effect on some of you that took the supplement?
I have also few other questions:

It comes in different concentration, I read on one tread that 4000mg/day is necessary, but looking at the products available 250mg capsule that means 16 caps. a day that's seem a little extreme!
Is that amount necessary or you guys have achived positive results with less?
It also comes one product by itself: Gluco. alone and condroitin alone or as a combo, what is the best way to go?
what web site do you use to order? best prices?

PS: I remember Johnny used that stuff, maby you can fill in.

Thks a lot,

I have been using it for approx 1 year, and have found it gives me substantial relief, form pain associated with osteo arthritis from 6 crush fractured spinal vertebrae from 3 different accidents, a reconstructed shoulder, and a very fuked L knee.
If I kite a lot (more than 2 hrs, for me) then I still get a swollen knee and some pain that paracetamol or anti inflams fixes, but the other injuries almost never give me any trouble. I used to get a lot of back pain in the mornings, but this went away after approx 2 weeks on the gluco dope.
I rarely get shoulder joint pain, a specialist once told me he thought it was due to all the kite flying I do (stunt kites, foils, anything actually).

I use the powder and take approx 5 grams per day of Glucosamine and Chrondroitin. They come packed as separate powders here in Oz in the Bioglan or Pretorius brands.
I have not found any brand of caps or tabs that I trust and it is too exxy to take the quantity I need for releif in those forms.
I think all the other brands came from that company that is banned, they were selling beef cartilege as shark cartilege, bastards! I knew that company was crooked from my days as a health food shop owner 20 years ago.

You can get an arm band by AirCast that is designed for tennis elbow. I have worn them on both arms at times. I am free of this painful malady at the moment but when ever I feel the first hint of it I wear the band which will help you to not get the problem in the first place. Here is a link to the product, they really work but it may be difficult to heal the problem after it has already occured. Prevention is the best way to handle this problem. http://www.buyaircast.com/pneumatic-armband.htm

Extensive use of power tools (sheetrock drill, etc.), weight lifting, can also be the type of motion that will trigger your tennis elbow to re-occur. So I often wear the band when I do activities like these.

I also take glucosamine/chondroiton for a different injury, (my ankle). And it has eliminated 95% of my pain after taking for 2 years. This was a cartiledge problem.

A little update on the Glucosamine, after 3 weeks taking 2500 mg/day
still no amelioration at all. Should I increase the dosage???
Got the aircast and it helps when doing normal activities.
But the pain is still here I can barely put my sunglasses on with my right hand because of the pain.
I stopped kiting 3 weeks ago, and stopped any effort on the elbow as well.
But still the same pain.
This problem is driving me nuts especially when I see my friends kiting...

I went to see a Physician and he wants to cast me from wrist to shoulder to stop any mvt and let the elbow rest, but I also heard that it was not the thing to do because of muscle atrophie and it might not fix the problem.

I'm considering a 3rd injection of cortison for this year, being the last one because of the negative effects of it, can melt the tendon if more than 3/Year....
Then I will take on therapie after the injection....

I don't know what to do anymore so I can get back into the water ASAP..
Any suggestions from the specialists??????

This mess was a real pain in the elbow to write.............

While it can't hurt to take glucosamine, don't expect it to do anything for tendonitis which is the bulk of the problem I'm hearing described here. Recovery from tendonitis requires REST, ice, naproxem sodium, and then gradual retraining INCLUDING training the muscles in the OPOSITE direction of the movement that caused the tendonitis. I have rigged up some surgical tubing and an old bar to simulate the exact oposite motion as kitesurfing.

When dealing with such a weather dependent sport like kitesurfing I've found it virtually impossible to restrain myself from overindulging (so to speak) i.e. great session today, its going to be windy tomorrow, and then not again for a week. Gee, I shouldn't really go out tomorrow because I over did it today. Yea right, sorry tendons!

Let the pain be your guide. If you have tremendous self discipline, of course you can restrict yourself to a proper training program. If your a normal addicted kitesurfer, you do the best you can.

40 and falling apart,
MT

I forgot to include stretching before and after (sometimes during) a session has brought relief to my left elbow..

Fabjet1,

Have you been diagnose that your injury is really coming from the elbow?
I have the same pain at the same place, except that it doesn't hurt that much when I'm not doing anything, I thought that it was coming from the elbow, But after a 3rd opinion and a magnetic resonance, the pain is coming from the shoulder tendon.
I have to be treated with fisical therapy and ultrasound (whatever that is). So maybe what you need is an accurate diagnose first and then some therapy by an expert, if there's no need for surgery (when damage is severe), I don't think casting it will be the way to go.
I'm going to start my therapy this week, I'll tell you about it then

You might want to look into something called "prolo-therapy". I can't recall the details right now, except that it's free of side-effects (unlike drugs), & involves injecting a slightly irritating fluid (such as salt water or sugar-water) into the affected joint. Apparently this stimulates the healing process very effectively, often in only one treatment, but sometimes up to 3.

Can't say that Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate have really done anything for me. Been taking it for quite a while and I don't notice any change in my knees or back. I even tried the liquid "pure" expensive SynFlex stuff and still no change at all. I know people who have done the prolo-therapy with only temporary mild results. For elbow pain the best thing I have discovered is to get one of the wide Velcro bands for tennis elbow, and put it around your upper forearm. It distributes the stresses and allows your tendon to heal. I couldn't believe how effective it was for my elbow pain. Now I don't need it at all. Wear it constantly while healing, even when not kiteboarding, because you are always gripping and moving that area in day to day affairs, and it will irritate it more. If you ride in a fixed loop get a longer one so that your arms aren't so bent when you ride or jump. If you ride in a chicken loop learn to ride with the bar further away from your body. As far as joint pain is concerned the only thing I have found other than Ibuprofen, is to really cut down on my sugar intake. It makes a huge difference. Also helps tremendously with sore muscles, and muscle recovery. I love sweets, but I pay for it. There are also many people who are allergic to Wheat, and Dairy products.
