Please read and follow the newly posted signs if you plan on kiting @ the Strand. The gesture would be greatly appreciated by all beach goers, including kiters

Under “Guidelines for safe kite surfing at Silver Strand State beach (Advanced skill level):”,
item # 4 states, “Jumping: Because of waves, a kiter will be required to jump at Silver Strand whether wanting to or not. Rider must be able to fully control orientation, and to accurately predict landing spot in a jump.”

I’ve never been there so I don’t know what it’s like but assuming that this “guideline” is meant to be followed and will be enforced, STRAPLESS RIDERS WON’T BE WELCOME at this WAVE location.

NOTE: The “Reference information” is from the SCKA (located in Long Beach about 3+ hours away, near L.A. and happens to be only FLAT water. The Strand is near San Diego, CA).

In the event that these "guidelines" are adopted at other State beaches with waves, I wonder how much support for access strapless riders can expect to get from non-waveriders who have concluded that more and more waveriders (especially strapless ones) have been attempting to LIMIT other kiters' ACCESS based upon flawed and irrational theories regarding who should have the ROW.

WTF. If you're not dropping yer kite, your not pushing it hard.

The signs were put up recently by the park rangers and I'm assuming these are guidlines to ensure safety for all. @Richard. The few strapless riders at the strand are all proficient at getting over waves/whitewash. I guess you would say it's more an "Ollie" jump than a "Dangle." Also, most riders I've seen there rarely drop their kite since it's mainly a wave spot. And if they do, it's usually up within 30-40 seconds or released to prevent damage when tumbled in a wave. I doubt any Ranger will be counting how many kites are dropped or if someone does not clear a wave. However, it does give the Rangers the authority to prevent someone to continue kiting if they feel that the kiter is a risk.

I'm actually glad they put the signs up because it was starting to become dangerous with inexperienced kiters. ex. A few weeks ago there was a visitor that almost took me out while I was setting up because she had no clue how to self-land nor how to use her safety(it was a 5-line Rebel). The strand blows more onshore and her kite would have ended up in the parking lot if I would not have grabbed it, with her still attached. 50 yards further there is a highway that runs parallel to the beach. Better strict rules than an injury/death or closures.
