Is there anyone out there currently using a scuba tank or pre filled air tank to inflate their kite?

I would like some information about plumbing required.

I would like to fill it using a standard compressor via a tire tube valve. And then have a hose with a trigger handle to allow me to control the amount or air that fills the kite. Obviously a standard scuba valve is not sufficient.

I am also contemplating a 12 v air compressor mounted in the car to fill the tank while I drive to the beach.

Another question I have is with water condensation. Any suggestions on a filter of sorts to trap moisture before it enters the kite?

Pressure required to fill scuba tank- 3500 - 4000 psi !
Can't use regular compressor - 120 - 180 psi
Scuba compressor $ 3500.00
Standard kite pump $15.00, 3 minutes to pump up kite.
Just saying

Thanks, but this is a project I have been thinking about doing for a little while and would like to have an attempt at it.

I have thought about using my spare tire to fill the kite. It's already mounted in the car and already has a valve fitted. I wonder if there would be enough volume or air in a spare tire to fill a 10m kite to full pressure?

Very little luck with 'scuba tank' but searching under 'tank' got me a couple of really good threads. Thanks

a scuba tank does not need to be filled to 200bar. you can if you choose to but its not required. got to a spray painting supply place they should be able to supply a regulator with filter/knock out pot. the other issue you need to consider is overpressurising your bladder. design in a pressure relief the blows at 10 psi . that should stop you blowing you your bladder if you hold onto the gun for too long.

I know a few people who use these.they work great.Just refill at any welding supply or company that refills co2 for bars.

I have looked at a couple of systems that uses rechargeable co2 or rechargeable air tanks, but unless I can find a system with local companies where I can just exchange empty for full bottles. I would prefer to use a standard air compressor do that I don't have to continually pay for recharges.

At the moment I am thinking of a 10 gallon air tank filled by a 12v air compressor to about 100psi.

From what I have read in other posts, that seems to be a good combination to get at least one full kite inflated. I'll look into it more and post my thoughts and progress. I am however thinking of incorporating a Venturi device made by a company called volo. Their website is pumpkiteup.com. By using a Venturi to draw air in externally from the bottle, they reckon that they can get 40% more efficiency for a tank full of air. I just need to find out if it will work with pressures as low as 100psi. Maybe it will only work with 200bar pressures.

I think this inflator adaptor would work on a Switch valve and maybe another brand that uses the same style valves?

Is 7 gal of air at 150 psi enough volume at ~8psi to fill a kite or two?

I have tried the 10 gallon air tank and it does work, just doesn't fill the kite all the way. Then you have to top it off with a hand pump.just ends up being more gear to carry around.Unless you have a crappy pump and are pumping large kites all the time,a hand pump is fine, just part of the program.
