Sliced 2 fingers in Ventana - just moving detached kite from close to water - backwinded or someone behind kite pushed it or ??? and bridle sliced 2 fingers - doctors in La Paz were great because many similar cuts by fishermen - got lucky!
Dislocated shoulder and tore rotator doing self-launch west side Maui - tripped on tree roots and landed on shoulder - had good pt on Maui and back on water after 6 weeks - able to recover about 90% without surgery - got lucky!
Just 6 weeks ago did self-launch locally, slid on stones/rocks, spun around, slammed into stone/gravel ledge - OUCH - bad sprain/twist/bone bruises of foot/ankle - getting OK and back on water - got lucky!
Maybe I should stop self-launching!!!!

Ripped big chunk of skin off my arm with my kite leash, crushed ankle, kite lines trying to drown me
i seen some bad ones- young girl with face split in half using reel leash, 2 people face down.. both pulled out of water - one horrific injuries (halo coma etc..) but actually back into kiting again and helping me with some website work! Another dude at my local flew 20ft at launch due to bridle wrap (kite looped) landed head first on hard sand absolutely out cold for 6 mins (kind of scary at the time) then got straight up and tried to go back kiting not knowing what had happened. Then there was the guy that landed a jump at a local spot and broke his ankle/lower leg and the bone ended throught the footpad and into the core of the kiteboard - yuk! Up a tree and land sideways on concrete seat - pelvis stay safe! my friend also had a 100ft + lofting over dune trees road and onto golfcourse before that eric dude years ago - he was ok just broke a few ribs.- hmmmm i will stop now... but always fascinating stories "kitemares"!

This is all after 10 year of riding. Nothing compares to when I go for snow sport.
It is defently a low risk sport

no injuries, other than little scrapes from a tear in straps, or breaking in new ones on a 6 hour session and having them dig holes in my feet.
also pretty much every muscle/tendon hurting for a couple weeks until it gets stronger.
minor crap, no injuries here. pretty safe sport.

"Oh, just one more run then I'll get a smaller kite ..."
I've still got the plate in. Post-surgery hurt worse than doing it or going to the hospital. They tried to set it without anesthetic and that didn't even hurt - but the guy hanging on to my upper arm hurt like a bastard.
Cut feet a few times. Ear and eye infection once. Spent a day puking and squirting after kiting boarding with a dead dog in the water ... well it was that or the wife's pumpkin soup ...

Had to go to hospital for high fever and vomit from dirty water! YEACH! Took 4 days to clear up.
But it could have been much worse... years ago I got lofted 5m when I let my kite tumble in power zone in the beach... luckily it was a Peter Lynn s-Arc so super stable and I just floated back down.
Not funny at all a friend of mine almost died in same way - kite in power zone, got launched horizontally instead of vertically and hit a rock with his head (no helmet). 6 weeks hospital he is fully recovered now.
From these experiences I learned to become the fastest quick release in the northern hemisphere.
