Hi guys,
I am going to relocate to Madrid pretty soon, and was wondering where can I go kitesurfing in the area. The sea is to far way, I know, but that doesn't discurage me, I am used to ride on inland lakes - from light wind termics to gusty frontal winds. So where should I go in the distance of max 100 kilometers from the city? What are the predominant winds? Which kite sizes should I take with me?
Any additional info or even link to local kite community is highly appreciated!
Thanks, Sava

Hi Diego K,
Valensia is at the east coast, right? What is your usual, most used kite size? I am asking if there are spots closer to Madrid where I can go for just a day. I would go to Valensia for a weekend, not less. Any forum, kite community in Madrid?
Thanks, Sava

Try Spainkiters Forum (Madrid section) or Forokiters Madrid. If you don't mind long drives, besides Valencia, you're 7 hours away from Tarifa and 6 hours away from Guincho. You're also a couple of hours away by air from the Canarias.

Thanks, Sava Hello Sava, the nearest spot is a 1 hour and half, it's a Alarcon dam. In winter, fall and springs fronts from north you can use a 7-9 mts kite depending on your weigh in summer it is termal wind from 18 mts to 12 mts kites. You can check all infomation in Forokiters-Madrid forum.

Valmayor is a windsurfing spot, only at half hour¡¡, the problem with Valmayor is that you don't have shore to launch or land the kite it is rocky area, anyway I think kiteboarding is forbidden there, it is possible but very dangerous for both the fine and destroy your gear.
Alarcon is a much more frendly spot.
Cheers.
