Just to make sure If I understand you correctly, and pushing your reasoning a bit further in a more general sense, you will accept any other water user to come and play with you on your playground ? Nico

I reckon if you own it you could pretty much do what you like with it!
"your" might not be correct and a matter of your mindset.

Heres my play on all this.
Possession is 9/10ths of the law. If a bunch of surfers ( not kiters) are in the best part of the break i'll leave leave that part of the beach to them, if i'm there first and they turn up and want to ride the same break as me then I wont move out of the way. I will however move away if swimmers start to dominate the area.
In the case of other kites to me its simple. if your on the wave you have right of way. I'll get out of your way so you can roost. You can be going down the line or up riding in the pocket or away from it. I expect the same courtesy when i'm on the wave not mater what style i'm using.

how about this?
if it is a good break and there is a rotation going, try and fit in rather than cause chaos and increasing the danger to everyone. Especially if there is an open spot near by you can back and forth in.
reasonable or not?

Yep thats fair. if theres a line up of dudes doing their thing i'm not going to bust in and break the rythem. In that instance they are there first they get to lay down the rules of engagement.
Some days i feel like riding down the line tacking way the hell back out and then riding down the line again. Other days i feel like sticking smack in the beach break boosting airs of the wave lips and riding a waves upwind to do i all over again. In truth i usually prefer than method to riding down the line. I can session about one boost and one wave ride per minute in this mode and it gives me huge grin factor.

OK heres my setup. The sea belongs to everyone yes, this I know for having spent most of my life on it.. However if you have been riding the wave in front of your house for 35+ years, "discovered" it, named it, and been there alone for over 25years, I reckon you can call it yours. Now if on top of this it is a reef brake with a set lineup, and you are limited to the amount of time you can ride it due to the tidal effects (dry reef), and you find a dozen riders trying to exploit it, then I do not have any sympathy for a TT that comes to the lineup and cannot exploit the wave like it should be. Call me stuborn, old fashioned, arrogant, or whatever you like, it just does not feel right. Nico

where is "surfingwithkites"?
probably surfingwithakite...
pecking order in surfing since the invention of the sport.
legend says only hawaiian royalty shared the stoke
if you are surfing with a kite, obey the pecking order, or...
you can deny human nature (is a pig)
that does not change human nature (from being a pig)
my solution;
surf with a kite where the pecking order has not been established,
or there is none, for a variety of reasons.
unpopular and harder-to-get-to waves the most obvious.
carry on

I think some are missing the point of the OP. He's looking for a fight from someone like myself who doesn't kite at a decent wave spot and instead just rides back and forth "mowing the lawn". I'm not going to describe how or where I ride my directional, I just ride my directional and that's that.
Whilst I agree to wave ettiquette whole heartedly I also disagree that we all have to ride to one or someone elses agenda.

Nico In that instance the TT rider can take his turn in the line up like everybody else. who knows he may be better than you! may ride a wave on a TT more solidly than you on the surfboard. If theres some windsurfers they get a turn aswell...
