Brett from 321kiteboarding is now very proud to be part of Core kites
I was recently named "ambassador" for their kites ( :D fancier name than team rider)

I can answer many questions at this time about 2 of their 2012 LW kites
I have tested the Riot XR2 17M and XR2 19M in the ocean surf on directionals

Questions also about newly designed Sensor bar safety release, virtual 5th,etc,etc
Questions about time and effort for pumping the kites using standard "flat base" pump :pump:

............. :thanx: for looking in and questions

Could you do a short review of these two LW kite? Low end, high end, relaunch, turning speed, jumping, hangtime, bar pressure,...

Thanks

I have a Dyno 18. How does the 19 Core turn and fly compare?

I have seen this video but this is not an XR2. It surprising in fact that there are not more XR2 video out there.

Edit : sorry, I just learn that it is an XR2 in fact

Hi Seb.I will try to keep it short ( i am not sure if i can)
Tested only in ocean surf on 5'7" directional quad.Water temp 77F air temp 81F.Weight 165lbs

Listen i can't give a low end number that will satisfy everyone (too many variables)
But i can tell you the difference for "power when parked" since i have flown other LW kites
XR2 19M needs 1mph more than the SP3 21. XR17M 2.0mph more than SP3 21
XR2 19M appears matched with the Dyno18. XR2 17M needs 1.5mph more than Dyno18
Those are just my observations and not set in any kind of stone
The XR2 LW's are sent with 3m extensions to add to the 24m Sensor bar lines (recommended)

Have not tested high end.
Have not tested relaunch
Turning speed is sooo impressive with small 52/45cm bar (supafast, fast, medium) with 17 or 19

Jumps in the maximum winds of 12mph had great pop, lift, float. Kiteloops were sooo easy

Bar pressure is nearly non-existent if you want it that way
3 settings on leading edge bridle ( supalight, light, medium)

Conditions were side-on to onshore winds between 8-12mph with 2-4 ft waves
Both kites drift very very well in such light winds when off the wind on waves

One of the best part is that the pumping is supaez ( say bye-bye electric pumps)
My lovely experienced kiting "better half" insisted to test how much effort it took to do so
Well she said the 17M needed 85 pumps and the 19M 100 pumps for 6.5 PSI
She is 5'2" 112lbs and never broke a sweat or got out of breath. She said: effortless
Intake and outtake are in the same place "bayonet style". 5 struts / one pump quick flow

The 17M is her kite.It has a lot of depower she says.Easy to reach/pull ratio depower control
Chicken loop is small + rotating safety system is short (total 6 3/4") so great for short arms
14-15mph will probably her limit she says
For myself probably 17-18mph on the 19M if the wind was to pick up while we were out

Well i obviously said a lot for a short review
The 17M is similar to many modern medium aspect LW kites that are fun to fly, fast turning etc...
But the 19M is a one of a kind and for those looking for max power and fast fun this could be it!
I am trying real hard to contain my excitement :D

Well hello Mr. B-Day Cartoon man
Thank you for your question

So you have a Dyno18 2011 and would like to know a couple comparisons

19 Core turns tighter and faster on a 52cm wide bar vs 55cm for Dyno. Kiteloops are much easier
XR2 19 flies very stable in the air. On waves it drifts way better going off the wind

Very predictable power. Zero backstall. Zero hindenberg fully depowered flying straight overhead
Weights of kites are close but XR2 19 is 3/4lb heavier at 10.5lbs vs 9.75lbs for Dyno
The Core XR2 17 kite weighs the same as 18M Dyno

Dyno has a massive leading edge (good luck pumping by hand, don't forget to close dump valve)

XR2 19 leading edge size is like a 13M Rebel
XR2 17 leading edge size is like a 12M Rebel
Recommended pressure for those 2 Core kites is between 6 and 7 PSI

In summary the "parked power juice" is nearly identical
But the 19 is faster moving in the air and overall better suited for me in the waves

Here are some cartoons for you to enjoy:

We're running a demo center in West Michigan - come out and try some CORE kites. Recent test drives on the new 15mXR2 LW and some rider comments from a few days ago below. (My comments appear in italics)

"I test rode the core 15 in 15-19 knots* and it flew great throughout this range with room to grow in either direction." (* our local wind instrument was giving these numbers, but it's the general consenus here that the readings are consistently 2-3 kts high with the scenario we had that day)

"The Core 15lw is a fun light to medium wind kite." (this guy said it turns as fast or faster than his 11m kite)

"The kite has great turning speed and what is most impressive is how it carries its power through the turns, smooth and effortless." (this guy was doing kite-looping flips and rotations effortlessly within moments of hitting the water. Although we did not have any waves that day he rode downwind real hard to see how the kite would "float" and he said it would defo work well in waves

"Throw on the 3m extensions and it gets about a meter of more power, just slightly slowing the turning response."

"I am used to a little more throw in the bar for maximum depower but this kite has very comfortable depower and relaxed bar pressure." (He also commented that the depower adjustment was surprisingly effortless and smooth - and he said the kite responded very well at full depower)

"For jumping this 15 has nice lift and good float for smooth landings." - when I told him how the "intelligent bridle system" works he said "Yeah, that explains why it felt like it was literally flying higher when I pumped during the jumps". There is a Crre video that shows this.

"Its an easy kite to setup with uninhibited pressure when pumping it up." (I love this new inflate system..so easy and simple...surprised it hasn't been done before)

"Killer looking kite with great flying characteristics." (When I first started riing CORE kites a few years ago I wondered why they only come in one color scheme. If you watch their video about how the kites are made it makes sense - put more into the quality of materials and quality control of construction and keep the graphics simple)

A few of my own observations:
The struts are fairly slender, and the leading edge is not massive...but this 15m really has a nice rigid canopy shape. The bridles are nice and simple and there are multiple adjustment points to tune for your personal preference. We had it on the middle settings all around.

We had the 8m XR2 out a few days before. It was blowing 30-35 and this was definitely the upper limit for me at 160#. I'll be reporting more on the different sizes as we get them out in more conditions.

Also, the Sensor bar is super light, super simple, really great spinning C-loop.
