The City of South Padre Island is hosting the 4th annual SPI Kite Round-Up - May 3rd – 6th, 2012. This year’s event highlights a huge kiteboarding equipment demo, free to all participants! The price to attend this year’s demo event is free! The demo event will be held on the South Flats beach, next to the South Padre Island convention center, offering a huge expanse of sand flats with water front access.

South Padre Island, located at the southern tip of the Texas Gulf Coast, has long been a premiere destination for wind and surf. Kiteboarding has become very popular on the island due to strong steady winds, warm weather, and shallow/calm water of the Laguna Madre Bay. I went to SPI Kiteroundup last year and thought it was awesome!

First time in SPI and it is now going to be my kick off the season spring vacation. Love Hatteras too but not as warm, and better hotels, food and things to do when not kiting in SPI.

The manufacturer's equipment demos were worth the trip alone!

I might try to organize a nice house rental for or local Toronto crew or others interested. Sorry, no hostel or $8/night sleep on the lawn chair types! LOL!

This will be my 3rd year going! Can't wait for it either. Last year I was recovering from a dislocated rib hoping this year I won't have any injuries.

Glad to hear the positive feedback! We are looking forward to seeing everyone on South Padre this spring. We are really developing the free demo side of the event. Looking to get as many people on 2012 kites as we can, so kiteboarders will have a better idea of what's out there. Some form of amateur contests is still a possibility, no promises though. And sorry there won't be any cash purses.
