Hello Hello Doctor LW from southern east coast Florida
This is Supa often referred as Master LW (by my co-kiters) in central east coast Florida
How are you doing today?
The 17M you tried was Riot XR2 or XR (first generation)?
I believe the new XR2 has lot more depower capability
When you got overpowered how much wind were there + where and what were you riding ?
I think i remember that you are lightweight (135lbs?)
My wife at 110lbs on the XR2 17M is not yet out of control in wind of 15mph but close to her limit
Those you saw having trouble relaunching in 8-9 mph just need to practice more i guess
Maybe there was other circumstances that you were unaware of during their failed attempts
Sorry to respond so late,
but I've been out with my "cable park" yesterday after work till dark in a 10 to 12 mph winds
and today in a supa-light winds less than 10 and afterwords waiting for the supe-moon.
So as you hear me I prefer rather spending more time out there playing with the elements
than surfing here on the forum
To respond to your questions I tried the first generation XR.
I was overpowered on my directional 149 X 40 around 15 mph with fully depowered,
so I told the owner something had to be wrong with the set-up.
Turned out the front lines were stretched out and haven't tried since,
but the owner told me the up-wind is so much better since the front & rear lines are even.
And yes I'm light 130 lbs and made only one mistake 4 weeks ago.
I dropped my "cable park" to the soup once in one year,
so the jaws were dropping also at the shore
because the reverse re-launch was supa easy and supa fast.
They thought I won't be able to relaunch that big foil kite.
