Besides sea specs, ion or armour 720, who else makes suitable water glasses?

Im trying out these:

http://www.amazon.com/Spex-Amphibious-E ... 052&sr=8-3

However they are goggles which means they cover a lot more of your face than glasses.

Ocean glasses from Spain make some wicked kiting shades.

I wear Maui Jims on the beach, best pair of sunglasses i ever tried, polarized and awesome. On water i use a pair of Triggernauts, made for watersports with interchangeable lenses, removable hedstrap and a leash. Also polarized, but the light is not nearly as good as in the Maui jims.

I couldn't ride in the evenings here in portugal without the triggernauts. Wouldn't see shit with the low sun and glare in the ocean, plus salt water splashes.

Polarized sunglasses didn't work for me in the waves.
I found that I could not judge the wave coming towards me.

So I would take the glasses off and let them dangle around my neck.
This resulted in much improved depth perception.
I didn't understand the immediate improvement, so I repeated the test several times.

My theory is that the polarized lens causes you see thru the water surface.
But I want to look AT the wave, not look IN to the wave.
It is the glare of the wave face that actually defines the exact position and speed of the wave.

Polarized lenses may be ok for flat water and fishing,
but not for kiting in real breaking waves. WW

I use the BARZ SPORT GOGGLES WITH BLACK FRAMES (POLYCARBONATE LENSES)

http://www.murrays.com/mm5/merchant.mvc ... gory_Code=

Under lens type i added the polarized gray and have never had a headache after
a day at the beach. I get Migraines with bad eye-wear, and have Always had to
purchase Good products ; BARZ 'Is" a Good product !!!

These goggles come with two types of Gaskets that fit your face ; one open vented
and the other turns them into underwater goggles.

The BARZ OPTICS address :

They also do prescription lenses , and have several type of non polarized lenses
as well.

Hello Windyway and great observation that i was going to talk about soon :)
The actual theory has to do at what time of day you kite in those nice waves
It has to do with how high the sun is in the sky (the more it is over head the worst it is in waves)

It is true that you cannot see the "shiny reflections" on wave face to judge where they are
And that is the problem...you are experiencing "flat light and no more 3D"
Sun being overhead beams down on a "45 degrees angled wave face"
Think about moguls skiers...same thing ...never polar lenses...they could not see bumps or icy patch

If you are a middle of the day surfkiter it is best to use Transitions lenses (changeable non-polar)
Or simply tinted sunlenses with uv treatment.

I will explain later on an array of ideas in Plano power (no RX) or in backside digital prescriptions

Those who have any questions please ask...

Hi!
I had an eye surgery a few years back (intra-LASIK I belive) and since then my eyes seem to be more sensitive to UV radiation.
I wear sunglasses most of the times (sea specs) but still got red eye after most sessions. During kite trips when I ride for a week every day it even hurts a bit. I use eye drops which usually helps, but I'm still worried.

Is it OK to have red eyes afer only a few hours on the water, or will this be a problem in the long term?

To make things worst out of the kite season I do a lot of ski mountaineering wich is also a perfect way to bombard your eyes with tons of UV radiation. And again my eyes become red after a tour especially if its above 3000 meters.

I doubt the LASIK has anything to do with it except for the fact that you do not need to wear glasses always and therefore more exposure to sun and wind. Pingueculum and pterygium are common eye conditions and aggravated by sun and wind. If you can avoid pterygium surgery in your life that would be a plus.

Vasoconstrictor eye drops for example those based on phenyephrine or tetrahydrazolazine (like Visene, Rhoto and ClearEyes) or Atropine (like Similasan Homeopathic Eyedrops) will cause more redness and irritation in the long run. (P.S. Atropine in Similasan is a drug, no matter how its labeled for you naturopathic folks.) I would stick with artificial tear products and sun/wind protection and if that is not working for you then get the eyes looked at.

Crizal Alize is very elegant for keeping lenses clean and clear, but I can't imagine taking a $400 pair of glasses to get sand blasted on the beach and lost in the surf. I have that on my glasses, which I only wear to correct minimal refractive error during night driving.

Personally, I like to wear dirt cheap sunglass/goggles in the water. The cheaper the better so I don't cry when I lose them. If you are resourceful you can probably find a gross for less than a pair of Oakleys. Rain-X (the kind that goes on the outside windshield) seems to work well for me. And I often use a lubricating ointment like RefreshPM before kiting so my eyes repel salt water. It helps a lot.
