With the windmeter video proof it really creates an epic impact on people

Don't really care about your Kestrel measuring the windspeed at 6 1/2 ft off the ground

I am truly saying that to move on the water like that at 100kg weight in a fullsuit on a 161 wing TT.
.....with your 17M kite.....you are getting "10.5knots" (12mph) of power ......
.....from the non-measurable wind in your kite ... .............................

If you look carefully (at kind of blurry video from july 2009) when you first take off...
.... you see a few whitecaps from the wind waves breaking upwind of you in shallows

In the start of the video (0m:11s) when meter is zoomed out you can see a tree upwind of you based on windmeter axel. So you are standing in a wind shadow/rotor of the tree.

The fact remains that the V2 Infinity is not a great light wind kite. There are much better light wind kites out there (Dyno, Fat Lady, Flysurfer, to name a few). Flysurfer kites are massively problematic in light winds, but that's a topic for another day

The V2 Infinity needs 2-3 knots more the other kites to get going. It's no big secret: A 16m2 kite simply doesn't have the bottom end of a ~19m2 kite, regardless of how much sining you do or how quickly it turns.

I've only kited alongside Infinities one time. Two guys were riding them, both V1's. I was on a Dyno 18m. We were at the beach for 4 hours. Wind was less than 10 knots most of the time. Who knows what the actual wind speed was. I was riding my raceboard and my Mako 140.

The other guys were a bit bigger than me, and didn't have a raceboard, so I would understand if they couldn't ride in the same amount of wind as me. The problem though, was they couldn't get their Infinities to stay in the air long enough to even try to get on the board most of the time. When it picked up and I was riding my small board, doing 10 foot jumps, they were able to get on their boards. I rode for 4 hours straight, they were only able to ride for maybe an hour of that time.

The Dyno never fell out of the sky even though I kept falling while learning to tack the raceboard. The Dyno just stays in the air in much less wind and seems to have much more power.

One of the guys did say that it wasn't fair because my kite was bigger! how is 18 > infinity

The Infinity did seem to relaunch really easily once the wind picked up a bit. The lower aspect and curved leading edge seems to make the relaunch better than the Dyno. With the Dyno, you have to either reverse launch it, or use the 5th line.

The ONLY valid result for light wind shootouts is same rider, same gear, same conditions. Meters, white caps, claiming numbers, reviews etc don't mean diddly.


Lakes have current. Unless it's REALLY shallow, there'll be some kind of convection going on, moving the water. Even when there's no wind ...

You can see white-caps at 0:44 ... which looks about right for 8 knots to me and my lake too

The problem is, rather than falling out of the sky when the wind drops, they let you keep riding right up until the wind totally dies off ... then you have to loop your way downwind to get back to shore! Bottom end? TOO low

The V2 delivers more power than V1 but by how much?? And how did he do it?
My take is that let's say the new kite has 5% more surface area
Not knowing INF size let's just assume V1 was 15.50M and V2 (5% bigger) comes out at 16.27M

ADD to that the Extensions of 5 meters that are now included with the V2
V1 was tested for review in 2011 with standard 22m lines (that is pretty short for LW kite)

V2 of course will have more low end (around 1.0 to 1.5 knot) being a bit bigger and on "27m lines"
So the 2012 review will "surely be extremely positive" that V2 "has improved" low end over V1
It will be a "jaw dropper" as the designer previously said (& less need to "milk" the kite IMO)

But in conclusion the INF V2 still will not be at the top of the food chain when it comes to low end

Like PMU said...... how can a fast/fun 16.27?M keep up against a fast/fun 19M (that i have )

The solution to try to regain the title would be design an additional kite: the "INF V2 XL"

........just MY opinion.....i don't build LW kites....just ride the heck out of them... .........
