Some riders fit dampers on the nose to cut down vibrations. You can see Alex attaching one to his speed board in this.
Yeh Ronnie,
It is always choppy in Hawaii! That is why are speeds are so slow compared to other top speed venues around the world. We have the wind but not the flat water..
Thanks for the nautical Mile records I see it is possible to beat the Kite Mile record at 36 but the Windsurf record (Bjoern D) is at 41 and the overall is an amazing : Nov 2009 Alain Thebault FRA Hydroptère 50.17 kts Hyeres, France . I believe Anders Bringdal was on the boat when it did this time. Holy shhh that is fast for a mile!!
With that amount of chop ( especially in your run Alex), that is very fast!
Maybe you need a flat bottom boat to flatten the water for you?
I think the WSSRC records are on a set course with their representatives overseeing the record ( at least that was the way they were done). Dont know if they accept GPS yet, but they do for Hydroptere (apparently its got a super sophisticated GPS).
The GPS kite record is the 40.3 by Heinig Tilmann.

That is very fast for a mile. Not sure I can get that record but might try next time I go over there. Damien Leroy just left Florida to go to Martha's Vineyard and train with Rob Douglas. It will be interesting to see how my boards/Damien do against the record holder! They are both getting ready for next month's Kite Speed Saiing World Championships in France.
Wish I could go and check it out! To busy making boards...
Damo and Rob Douglas are going fast at Marthas Vineyard this weekend. I talked to them yesterday and Damien hit 50.96 (personal best) and Rob hit 52 something as top speeds. Rob was hitting 44 for 20 second runs. They are both getting ready for next months Kitesailing Speed Worlds in France.
