Add just about any job that you can do from home.

I think I kited more days than I spent at the office last season, and worked whenever it wasn't windy at night/weekends to make up the hours. I do web programming and print advertising with a little email marketing... all stuff that I can do from a laptop with wifi anywhere.

Start a business that is not location dependant (internet based) and run that business to provide personal freedom verse running it to grow and make you rich.

Greed will always get in the way of personal freedom.

My momma always told me marrying for money is the hardest job you can ever have...Better to earn it yourself and not have to ask anyone for permission to do anything

I'd imagine Sugar Mommas being less demanding in the middle of the day than Sugar Daddies

Well I was a Metallurgical Engineer, based in the mining industry down under in the west.

Changed careers to become a Maths Teacher High school like Nobile_109. Apart from kid committments (which most of us have anyway with kids) I can be on the water everyday by 4pm. (made sure I live and work very close to the best kitespots around here).

Miss the money, but have gained the time.

Also get the summer 3 month holiday which is the height of the season.

But I got tradie mates who own their own businesses and they have the luxury at times to choose to go when the wind comes in...if it comes in early and eases of late, I'm stuffed. But alas they still have the pressures of their own business and do go missing in action on big jobs sometimes.

I suppose at least my water time is consistent.

Thing is I have to take holidays when every other bastard takes them (especially those with kids), so everything is twice the price to go anywhere and do anything and there is the crowds to consider. More a pain when it comes to surfing though. But even kiting is getting to that frustrating level.

Ultimately a job that allows you to choose your own hours is ideal. Mine doesn't so it is not quite perfection, but compared to my first career it is. Problem with night shifts mentioned can be the lack of shut eye if early morning sessions are on and also if you have an intense arvo session, you know you then need to go to work!!

I'm a technical manager for an education firm.

during the summer, I start at 8am, finish at 4pm and am on the water at 6pm (it takes an hour on the train to get home from London)

For instance, tonight I will probably be on the water until 9 or 10pm

It works well for me, especially as we are having an epicly windy spring/summer

wait, you spent how many years becoming a registered nurse and now you want to randomly change jobs to get more time on water?

Surely you could work overnight shifts and live near a beach to get more kiting days in.

I can't see a good return on changing careers unless you're actively dissatisfied with being a nurse.
