I'm sure I out-weigh most of you buggers ... I have the Flydoor XL (170x50) for the light stuff and a Flyradical L (139x42) for when it picks up. I prefer to go out over-powered on the kite and use the smaller board but the big door can still be fun.

... are you sure... I'm 125 kg now, proberly 130kg with a few beers in me, wet harness etc, just checking,,,, what do you weigh by the way?

I wish I weighed 210 like the OP, that would make it a piece of cake! Still, for you to feel like you cant get going until 18 mph wind seems strange. Im usually ripping on a 16-17m and my 137 blunt at that point.

I'm 245lbs and have settled on the kites and respective boards below.
Have dabbled with a surf board and will probably dabble again. I didn't try it as a light wind option, more for kiting in surf. It didn't do a lot for me? The hype continues about them, so I'll give it another go.
I went for a big TT for my big kites - see below and have been pleased at the low wind performance compared to lighter guys around on the water.
I would think a mid size Door or a wing would be ideal.

I went the formula route in windsurfing to address light wind and lost the 'fun' element.
I'd be interested to know if the kite race boards would be similar?

There are many types of lightwind boards available which will allow you to get out in the light winds ie 10-14knots.
Raceboards
Freeride directional - ie Cabrinha Transport
Fast rockered surfboard
Huge twin tips ie Nobile Flying Carpet
Large Twin tips ie Nobile XTR
Skimboards - Nobile Skim

The Raceboards now at roughly190cm*70cm most likely will give you the best lowend, however this style of board may or may not be the riding style you want, or it may or may not work in the area you kite in, due to the very long fins. The huge twin tips like the Nobile Flying Carpet are very good as well and are a great compliment when using a lightwind kite. Really your riding style may choose which board to choose. It is possible you may want to have 2 or 3 differnt lightwind weapons so to keep it fun when out on the water.

3-4 hours is no problem here but I'd rather slim down and have the additional 10 knots or so of bottom end I've been promised by manufacturers
