SUPER LIGHT WIND FUN WITH THIS TWO-STRUT DESIGN

The Fly goes in virtually no wind and is incredibly fun to ride. Its exceptionally light weight is primarily the result of removing the center strut. In doing this, the center section of the canopy performs like a spinnaker and generates incredible power in light wind.

The Fly uses the Park's proven easy-handling design, which gives it superior turning ability, but it incorporates more overall sweep, which helps the Fly relaunch in marginal wind conditions.

Why did you make the FLY?
The Fly idea came from the idea that riding in light wind should be fun. To me, just because the wind is light, you shouldn't necessarily have to use a kite designed for racing - that is slow turning, heavy and not fun to ride.

What are the benefits of two struts for a light wind kite?
When the wind is light, you want to maximize the ratio of power to weight of the kite. To do that, you want to have as much power with the lightest kite possible. The two struts offer significant weight savings. Think about the amount of dacron and TPU (which are the heaviest materials in a kite) that are saved. At the same time, having no center strut allows the center of the kite to act like a spinnaker. It can expand slightly to harness more wind. The result is that the Fly has the highest power/weight ratio on the market.

....Here we go again
...a size 15M kite......power of an 18 and turns like a 12
....lightest weigth to power ratio (for tube)

....So let me do same math with the tube kite i ride in LW

.....a size 19M kite....power of a 21 and turns like a 14
......weigth (10.5lbs/4.77 kg includes bridle/pulleys/sliders) to power ratio = 0.227 kg per sq. m

.....easiest .. fastest... largest..... LW kite to pump with human power source

.....a 15LW will never have as much juice ( power) as an 19LW kite that is fast turning

....it is just simple physics

In any case congratulations to Naish for offering a much needed fun LW kite in their line up
Not so sure about the name...makes me think of the movie The Fly...also to close to FLYsurfer

I'd like to know how it compares with the Park, which I think is an exceptional kite, with a temperament diametrically opposite (and complementary) to big foils.

i can not say anything about all those claimed qualities until i try the kite or at least see with my own eyes. and i don't like the idea of unsupported central part of the canopy at all.

but comparing the kite to spinnaker is either ignorance or disrespect towards potential customers.
a spinnaker is a special type of sail that is designed specifically for sailing off the wind from a reaching course to a downwind, i.e. with the wind 90°–180° off the bow (by Wikipedia).

whole point of kite riding is to be able to ride upwind. i don't think it would be possible with the spinnaker

I was thinking the same thing about the spinnaker comment

I raced sailboats for 15 years and i was in charge of flying the spinnakers often riding the trapeze
Beam reach when overtaking a competitor...broad reach to jibe mark...downwind leg etc...

Conventional spinnakers can catch wind from right or left side...very thin edges..no tubular LE

May add confusion to buyers since Airush has a LW kite with one center strut only !!!!

This one has no central strut but 2 sides + rather long straight wingtips that seem to act like struts

In 2009 North tried the Rebel without a center strut...but that did not take... (and they had a 16M)

A15M is in noooooo way a large kite......unless you live in Hawaii :thumb:

I think a 17M (minimum) would have been better for worldwide LW maniacs and bigger riders

Sometimes this Forum is rather rediculous, people commenting on the name of a product or if the idea has been stolen from another brand and so on, and so on. And unfortunatelly, some people always like to nag, unless the topic is about the brand they are using themselves of course.

The Liquid Force Havoc has no center strut. I tried it and thought it performed quite well, very grunty!
And the size doesn't always matter boys, there are a lot of other factors that matter, like weight and shape for example...
