A surf board race?

Postby Muri » Fri Jun 22, 2012 11:10 pm

Aloha,

A sail club has a race, the course is a round around some buoys and islands, some upwind some down but a lot of reaches in between 21 miles total distance.
I want your comments on the following:
Because almost none of the kiters in the zone have race boards, I am thinking making this race a strictly surf board race. Any kite or surf board has long it is production product.
If the race draws more racers in the future then we can add a race board class.
The idea is to do the race back to back with the sailboats.

Thanks for your comments.

Why not let them participate? Then split the results into raceboards and directionals...it would seem silly to me to exclude racboards.

Why does it have to be a production board?

What if someone wants to make his or her own surfboard

I ride mainly surf oreiented boards, and they all ride differently.
I knoiw exactly which one I would use for a race, and which one to ride the waves.
Not the same one.

Thanks for the imput.

We race as an invited class after the big monohuals. I we put two classes together at least the first years it will be complicated for the committee boat. I just want to leave it simple the first years.

I do not want TT, because I think surf boards are in the direction to race boards, plus you need to tack and gybe and it will make it more real (like a real raceboard race).

And it shuold be easy to lent a surfboard in case you do not have one.

Not 100% sure what you are arguing here but at the Naish race Flash smoked the directional boards on a tt in one of the races.

It is easy enough to split the results after passing goal :)

It makes no difference what the riders are on to the comity boat. They just need to record the order of finishes. The score master can break out the results after. Just make sure they remember to order them into separate races so the first person in each class gets a 1 not the position they came over the line. You can do an overall winner that way.
