Dears,
will be going this August for a kite trip in the Kite-Mecca: NE Brazil. I'm an intermediate kiter.

Will be there with my girlfriend (she's Brazilian and she's ok on just kiting, lucky me :-) ), have already been there, but looking for suggestions for:
1- Lencois Maranhenses: never been there, have no idea whether is season, where to go, how, etc. The park looks amazing, would love to go there.
2- A place to choose between Fortaleza and Jeri (where i'll be back for sure)? What i like the most is flat water, and if possible "some" kind of life-after-kite...a restaurant, something.

As you might guess, i'll basically be doing 2-3 stops at different locations.

Thanks to all,

Vanni

I live in Natal and, even though it wasn't between your options, I'd suggest Barra do Cunhaú - Pipa... Just check it out.

And if you need advice on anything in Rio Grande do Norte state, I'd be glad to answer...

Cheers

Adriano

I was in 2009.
Strong wind (>20 knots) and flat water on Cabure river mouth. Circled area.

I live in São Luís - Maranhão (capital city to Lençóis Maranhenses).
This year the lack of rain falls won't let us have fun in Lençóis Maranenses (Barreirinhas or Santo Amaro), because the pools didn't fill with water. A pity because that would be the highlight of a NE's off the beaten kitesurf track.

São Luís is also very nice!
We have a 40 km in-town downwind very easy to accomplish. (Raposa - Litorânea)
Our waters are very calm when tide recedes and intermediate aggressive (chops) on high tide, but waves are 1m max..
Very good town to party from Country to Reggae music.

This year that spot and Atins (beside Caburé) are the only available options due lack of rain fall.
Winds were really strong this off season, so chances are winds raging 25 ~ 40 knots on regular season.
Wind season: August - January. (peak = by the second week of September, probably up 45 knots)

Good place for flat water between Fortaleza and Jericocoara is Ilha do Guajiru,
Huge tidal lagoon (2 km on 800 m) , with strong wind.
http://go-kite.com/index.php/brazil-ilha-do-guajiru/general-description
There are no "night life", but nice atmosphere and kiperinhas in the beach pousadas.

Another great place for flat water, after Jericocoara, is Barra Grande:

At the right tide, you get huge flat shallow open sea lagoons.
Night life again, are only hummocks and kiperinihas in kite surfers pousadas.
You can get to Barra Grande from Jericocoara by 3.5 hours of off road driving,
or 6 hours with public transportation.

Paracuru is a great spot, open sea lagoon of flat water (at the right tide),
and clean waves breaking outside.

Paracuru is small beach town, and there no pousadas at the kite beach,
so you have smaller, more crowded lagoon, but lovely Brazilian evening life.
