Hi y'all. I have a north wam and been trying to learn to jibe but I keep slipping when i put my foot in front of the back pad so looking for something other than wax to put in between the 2 pads. I found a picture. But can't find any info. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

I ride the WAM too. I find it easier and more fun to carve hard with my back foot in the strap, then switch after the carve. I have my back strap a little loose and the front looser. I suppose if you switch feet first and then carve then that becomes an issue. I have used clear (more like transluscent) bathtub safety strips in the past. This is an option too... http://www.northshoreinc.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=198

NSI also has a spray-on non-skid that works really well made by Monster, i think light than any pad and easy to apply

Thanks guys, I figured that the pad would be a better solution, but that monster product looks amazing, had anyone used it?
Obviously is not much of an area that I need to cover, and I'm not sure about spending $30 (Shipped) for a can, when I can get a 2sq ft piece of traction pad for about $14 shipped, and I think it'll last longer.
Do you think these pieces of pads will add that much weight to it.
Also another thing to consider is will it be weird going from the height of the pads back to low on the deck? I wonder if it'll get in the way, which is another reason I'm leaning towards the pads.
I know is obviously all personal preference, just trying to get others opinion and take on this.
Thanks again.

I have the same board and ride with my rear foot out of the strap most of the time. The difference in height between the deck and the pad doesn't bother me at all. In fact sometimes it helps with grip because you are able to push against the lip of the pad.

lose the straps and all but the rear pad, add a little wax and you might be able to save that board from the 80's.

for a non wax solution I've used versatraction.
but really saving $15? If you think that spray will do it then go for it. If you're not willing to spend the monies then just get the pads. Just note there is a huge difference form pad to pad, I like the ones with max traction. If the pads are too soft and slidey if you get any sort of sun tan lotion on them, then you'll slide more than ever.

I don't have a surfing background, so not 100% comfortable on a directional yet. tautologies wrote: but really saving $15? Sorry dude, don't mean to sound cheap, I'm on really tight budget, and looking for the best longer lasting solution, that's all.

Only thing that comes to mind is some scrap pieces from pads that you use for SUP. Also, you can take old/used tail pad and remove the glue with coleman camp fuel. Works for removing the glue from your board as well. You will need to lay a cotton rag over the area and soak it for at least 5 minutes and get the areas as clean as possible(takes a little work). Then, just use some of that 3M Hi-Strength adhesive 90 to re-stick the pad pieces where you need it. If you are in a remote area(no surf shops), I have some extra SUP scraps my buddy gave me. It would not be that hard for me to send you a few pieces to cover that area. Just PM me. Glad your stoked on your directional and agree with what one poster said about the straps being a hinderance. However, I also understand the need to use them until you figure things out.
