You rode a 5M in that? Did you swim back at 7 pm?

Agreed, I'd be on a 10m or 12m. 12m until 11am and after 6pm. 7m would work during peak, but I wouldn't enjoy anything smaller.

the wind sensor is indicating wind on the shore. in the middle of the channel the wind is 5-10 mph higher. We have a lot of snow on the mountain so the water level is still high and the current is swift going opposite direction of the wind.
I am a newbie so I was stoked. Yes it was a 5 meter kite. It was 5,6,7's on the water in the afternoon.

You would have gotten raped on a 10m. I was out on a 7m wishing I had rigged a 5 or 6m. Sick day!

Agreed; 5M was the tool of choice and the wind was stronger past Wells Island.

A little off topic but .... I think we got that same wind 2 days ago ( the 12th ) here on the east coast. Maybe 20-27kts I think. I'm a light weight and was out on my 05 5m fuel riding a 128 x 38 that day... 30 deg sunny and strong winds... unusual combo for around here. That kite looks so small it makes me laugh when I set it up... but...it has some surprisingly low end. Some of the low end power comes from it's sheer turning speed I think and with 25m lines you get a really big arc and you can figure 8 the kite to keep you going. It's a real treat to fly.
I have heard the older fuels have more "power" than the later models but I wouldn't know.

It was weird at first flying a 5M kite. It is actually my wife's kite and I had to bring it by Slingshot to trouble shoot.
It looks funny at first, like you have a trainer kite in the sky. And then with a few gust and you realize it will work just fine.
I was riding a Slingshot SX 143, so that helped compensate for the smaller kite.
Have fun, Be safe

RE: 5m kite
Does the speed of the river heading into the wind add or increase the airspeed the kite experiences?
