I just got it and riden twice. I am 170 lbs (bout 80 kgs)

Rigging as packaged. Lite winds learning to turn it. Seems slow. Same day rode Fat lady and it pivots faster. Any clues how I can turn faster ? (by the way too much pull on bar seems to backstall it, I can only pull bar bout 1/3 to pivot it and release about 3 times to finish turn)

In above riding plenty of power and could get upwind no prob. Average wind about 10 knts

Another session riding up to 15 knts. Bar totally depowered, had a hard time keeping kite low, wanted to ride up and would pull me up loosing edge. How do I adjust for higher winds? ( in this session tried moving down to a 13.5 Naish cult w 24m lines but wind not consistent, thus need to "survive" thru gusts).

Riding a north TT xride 135

Please advice. (perhaps Toby since he rides his 18m in all conditions)

Thanks, Max

Max, I have been on the new dynos for a couple of months. I ride the 17 m down till around 6knots with a race board and up to 20+ knots on twin tip. So far I have been stoked on how the kite turns and depowers, I do powered back loops and 720 unhooked loops, dark slides, etc all powered looping tricks on it with out any issues. So I am surprised to hear yours isn't as magic.

I would check ur line lengths And make sure they are all even. Even in very little wind mine turns well sheeted in fully and max bar input. The response about being over powered and back stalling would makes mE think your rear lines may be to short. Adjustments happen under the floats.

I have flown a ton of big light wind kites and I personally think the 17m dyno is the amazing, I am out before other kiters on big kite(my race board helps there) and stay out while others go in for 13 and 12m kites.

I am sure you just have a trimming issue. Good luck I know once you figure out your issue you will be stoked!!!

Billie

Guy that loaned me Fat Lady ( he took my Dyno for spin). Did mention needing bout 2 inches in back lines but more as a comfort to lower bar a bit

Checked under floats and had no adjustment left.

Hmmm. ?????

Thanks for input, Max

I've ridden my 18 Dyno back to back with the Epic Infinity (similar to fat lady) in about 10 knots on a twin tip. They are very different kites.

The Infinity does turn very fast for it's size, more of a pivot turn. The Dyno does a wide sweeping turn and generates a ton of power while doing it. The Dyno has WAY more power though, no contest. If I was riding waves in about 10 knots, I'd want the Infinity (or Fat Lady), but if I want to ride anything in under 10 knots I want the Dyno. Both kinds of kites have their place.

As far as the bar pressure and the backstalling you probably need some more length on the rear lines (or less length on the front lines). I ride mine on the closer-to-the-kite lines for the front lines (labeled "4-line" for some reason on the 18 Dyno).

From riding the Dyno and Infinity back to back in 10 knots and riding alongside others on Infinities in <10 knots, the Dyno is way more solid in the air in light conditions. If you're seeing the opposite, your line lengths are probably off.

As far as having trouble holding an edge in 15+ knots, I have the same thing. 15 knots is too much for me on the Dyno too. It's all trade offs. There are plenty of kites that are easy to fly in 15 knots of wind. I just switch to a smaller kite if its more than 12 knots.

I have the same board as you but use a 17 Zephyr as my light wind kite. I accept that the kite is slow and just before i want to turn i carve upwind while moving the kite across the window in the opposite direction.

I then let the kite pull me downwind slightly and then carve upwind without losing any ground.

If you have the bar too far away pull in the depower strap or line - it does the same thing as adding to the back lines

Hey billy

Watched your video of Dyno 16 w nugget board. And the bar you have is similar to mine. Guy must have sold me an older bar

But north would not have changed line length would they?

Thanks, Max

C'mon - it can not be that difficult to find out where the best "trim" is ?

Just add pigtails to your rear or frontlines, if in doubt.

When the kite backstalls in normal powered winds, you know exactly where the limit is.

And you can take it from there, according to personal preferences.

I could never ride a kite that I could not backstall - that would be totallly out of context for my liking and trim setting.

Others want to be able to pull the bar all the way towards them (like beginners do), without backstalling, so only a matter of preference, nothing else.

Just try for yourself with different front/rear line lengths (pigtails) and see what makes it work for YOU :thumb:

Agreed.

But a little patience

1) I am not a "technical" rider, I just like to pump and go

2) I'm not familiar w these kites, I've ridden it 3 times and after first experience I was ready to sell it. It was thru encouragement of another rider that I took it out again

3) now I'm trying to find its "upper" wind range.

Some North riders love the kites, I'm trying to get their input to have similar experiences and give the kite a chance rather than judging it out of ignorance.

Also, it is not my "go to kite".

I believe most kites today come ready to go, that's why a little surprised that 2 riders have mentioned making such adjustments specially since bar does not provide w/o "adding length"

Sorry if my ignorance frustrates you, but appreciate your comments.

Max
