lightweight raceboard or heavier?

The question is, is it better the lightest raceboard or is it better a heavier one?
Or maybe an intermedium one, not the lightest or the heaviest.
This question appeared to me all of a sudden when last week, I saw that mikes lab raceboard 2012 is 5.1kg and 2013 is 6.2kg.

lighter, the better....
Looks like 2013 ML is going to be made in Thailand by Cobra, not by Mike himself. I believe that is where the weight increase will come from.

Nice! So price will come down and waiting list will disappear? I'd be first in line for a $1000 Mikes Lab board even 1 kg heavier.

Had this discussion on here before. Lighter is better. The board is insprung weight like the tire on your car. That said at some point you go so light you break and broken is slow. Noticed the lab 70 on the ika page this week. If he can get boards out faster that would be great.

Supply and demand = the board is going to retail about $1900 board and straps only.

if the new one is the same shape as the 'old one' i will bet my house that the top racers stay on the old one as long as it is eligible.

after all i am sure they would love to be lugging an extra kilo of mass produced crap around in preference to teh hand made 5kg version that they currently have.

its one way to ensure second hand values never drop and that there will always be a premium for a hand made version if you are prepared to join the waiting list.

How long till the design is ripped off by one of the companies that are sick of getting their arses kicked for the last two years lol.

Mike is still going to make them too.
But the prototype from Cobra looks pretty good. the Guy on the right won the race night that he used it.

the guy on the right looks familiar.. ;) heard he was pretty good...

given the choice though would you lug the extra kilo about?
