Johnny sounded concerned about one-design ruining things.
In windsurfing, everyone mostly ignored RS:X until the Olympics and then had a look at who won if your country was in contention. There is a good youth development system for racing in windsurfing and enough competitors to keep RS:X healthy while it was still in the Olympics. The youth racing scene would be the biggest loss for windsurfing as it is partly dependent on funding from the Olympic connection.
I think kite racing's future is best served by keeping it the way it has been. For the Olympics it makes sense to have one design, but like windsurfing, the Olympics should be a quiet backwater and everyone should be more interested in the box rule racing. Kitesurfing doesn't need a youth development class for racing. Let them get into kiting for the fun of it and then when they are older they can compete - is the way I see it.

We have proposed an addition to Appendix BB, 13.4. When within one kite length of Eric, no rules apply for all other riders and team racing is encouraged.
