One million parts, all trying to go in different directions, and all manufactured by the lowest bidder.

Depends.

Who was better to advise on facebook stock on opening day: a trained analyst that liked it for some reason (thousands to be found), or a layperson who could see the P/E ratio and business model were crazy and flawed, respectively?

Anyway, to Captain's credit, "sneak up" is a relative term. You can sneak up and 'surprise' someone on the ground with a fast and/or hidden approach, but they'll still know you're there before they experience any rotor wash.

You are safer in a helicopter if the engine quits vs. an airplane, but explaining that is a whole other thread...

...
I watched a rather Large Chinook Helicopter from Camp Pendleton, do
an emergency ((engine Out)) Landing, next to the parking lot of Cardiff by the sea Ca.
The maneuver is called an auto-rotation.

40min later another Heli showed up with several mechanics and fix the first one,
then both of them took off and flew away.

What does a Chinook weigh ?
How long a runway would an airplane of equal weight need , to glide in
with the engine Not running ?

It took me Several tail rotors and a bunch of booms to learn to auto rotate my
11Lb Gas XL -- RC Heli, so i'm gonna assume it ain't easy to do it on a Real one ??

Not too hard...thing slow down as they get bigger.

Even if you go into the trees, you are likely to at least walk away, even if you trash the aircraft.

Last Sunday - another search action in Zeebrugge and Blankenberge.
SeaKing and a coulpe of search vessels employed. A 9 yearsd old boy lost by parents claiming that he went to swim.
The beach was immediately closed on a distance of 7km by 2-3 hours.
On some stage an eager helicopter pilot decided to search the would-be drowned boy over the crowdy beach something like 200m off the waterline. Idiot! People experienced a real sand storm. Not happy at all.
Despite my kite was secured by kilograms of wet sand put over each canopy there was na chances to keep it on the ground. Took off and tore a canopy flying over the beach. My session was over for good.

BTW. The boy was found playing with friends and probably wondering WTF - why people do not go swimming for last 3 hours?

Should I claim the kite repairing costs to the boy's parents neglecting their basic role or to the Belgium SAR?

Now that su-x !

I for sure would go after the parents. They must have a liability insurance.

Or maybe any lawyer around who could help with opinion?

Always difficult....

IF the boy was found alive by this very helicopter, everyone would have said "great, and the kite is just a material small thing compared and even you would probably say the same" 8)

So these choppers always has to react, even when it turns out there actually was noone in danger so it was "overkill".

Which I think we to some extent really appreciate, if it was us or our own children.

Whether it is just "bad luck" or you could claim SAR for the repair, I dont know (but not the parents IMO).

I havent read the whole thread, only the last few posts, so sorry if I it is a different issue being discussed.

:D Peter
