Hi
I will go to Brazil in September. I will arrive in Fortaleza and then move to Leicos Maranhenses.
I will use a bus from Fortaleza to Parnaiba (PI). Any suggestion how to reach then the Leicos from Parnaiba (economic way)?
Where is it the best place to stay near the Leicos? Atins, Caburè or Barrerhinas?
Suggestion for an economic but decent pousada there?
then I will move back to Fortaleza and I will stay some days at Ilha do Guajiru: Suggestion for an economic but decent pousada there?

thank you for the suggestion Toby.
Do you know if the pousada Pura Vida is near the spot or a transfer is necessary to go kitesurfing?

Hello doh77,
I was in Lençois in 2006.
Leicos from Parnaiba - only by car and there was a direct path. I had to go through a town called Chapadinha. Look on google maps.
Atins, Caburé or Barrerinhas? I was in Barrerinhas (
http://www.pousadamurici.com.br/index.html). It has several hotels and places to eat. This site has several boats that take you to the peaks.
Atins is far and had no infrastructure.
Caburé at the time had no hostel, but had restaurant (Caburé Restaurant very good). The wind is constant and the beauty of the place is indescribable. Wind above 20 knots.
I hope I helped,
Ricardo

For best economy, great owners, best vibe, food, launch. I highly recommend Windy Addiction in Ilha do Guajiru. David and Paz run a clean, quite, convienient pousada with good ammenities. He cooks up a wonderful menu of dinners each night that is sure to please. So fun to have some beers (or caipirinhas) after your session and share stoke with kiters from all over the world. David will pick you up in Iterena (sp?) bus depot if you make arrangements, or there's taxis for a couple reales. There also is a shared kitchen for those on a more restricted budget:

well: arriving in Parnaiba you will have to go Barreirinhas from where you will have to go by ferry, or by offroad . There are some companies also organizing transfers from Parnaiba by Offroad cars.
a good source for information , accomodation and transport here:

One of the best spots in Lencois Maranhenses is Cabure. It´s very deserted , no infrastructure at all but there you will find amazing conditions. several years ago RedBull had an amazing event in Cabure - called "RedBull Windriders" - you may find some footage on the internet......
The other preferable spot is Atins with slightly more infastructure.
Advice: plan everything carefully - this is real adventure and don´t expect all the lagoons because of the weak rainyseason it is mostly dry ......

I have recently bought a house near Parnaíba. In my opinion, we have some of the best Brazilian kite spots there.
If I were you, I would spend a couple of days here (
http://vilaitaqui.com.br/index.php) before going to Lençois Maranhenses.
