Flysurfer speed 3 12m vs 15m

Postby Cullen » Tue Sep 04, 2012 2:37 am

Hi,
I am thinking of getting a speed 3, and just wanted to know peoples opinions on what size would be good. My other kites are a 5m and a 9m so it would be a light wind kite, but I would like to be able to use it in higher winds too. I weigh 100 lbs (still growing) and would be using it on snow as well as water. Most of the time I would be on large inland lakes. It seems like it has a very large wind range so it would be nice if it could be my go-to kite in most conditions.
Thanks!!

Y-e-e-e-s it has a large wind-range... if you can hold it.

The 12 for me is only fun on the water when sheeting in on the beach makes me go paragliding :D I weigh a whole lot more than you though... the 15 suits me better for lightish to high wind - but I prefer to have landing support when the wind is cranking.

Someone like DrLightWind is in your weight class... I'm sure he'll be more helpful :D

I would say the 12m DLX would be more fun and boosting for you.
It is faster than the 15m.
You could start probably from 10 -11 knots with the right board.
The 15m would have better low end only few knots lower but the range is less
and much slower steering speed. Otherwise it has a very good hang time.

The 12 is the best jumping kite I have ever used.

My 15 jumps well, really well.

I have ridden all Speed 3 size; 12-15-19-21.

At 165 I now ride the 12 and 19. The 12 is the nicest since it is a lot faster and also it's the one that's got the most lift for big air. I think it's the one that will jump the highest but you still have that paraglider effect.

At my weight I can ride the 12m when people are riding 15m LEI. With a big board I can start riding from 10 knots. When it gets over 20 knots I get really lit and pull some really big jumps.

At 100 pound the 12m will be plenty for you as a LW kite.

Sorry I forgot to say this but I was thinking of getting the new Colored Edition because it comes with the new Infinity bar 2.0. It sounds like the 12 is the most fun and would be the best size.
Thanks for all the replies already!!

Go for the 12m... I love my 15m but I'm 100kg v your 100lb... Make sure you get the new bar as it is a step change from the first one.

I take it the new bar only comes on the colored edition at the moment...
Does anyone know when it should start to become standard on the non-colored deluxe?
I am planning on getting the colored edition anyway, but just was wondering. Any ideas on when Flysurfer is going to stop selling the CE ?
Thanks again :D

If I understand their product info corectly, the CE discontinued the old color (gold/black/white since 15.05.2012).
This new scheme will make it easier for us to identify which size others are riding at the spot.
I guess they will still make some special schemes occasionally like green and purple (don't really care, since I am getting my 12m2 CE on end of the month :D ), until Speed 4. I just hope, they will stick with same color/size they are introducing now with the CE.
