I'd like an emergency pfd kinda like planes use, tucked into the fabric of my harness, if it were possible without being cumbersome. A one-time use sort of thing, so if for some reason you really were in a dicey situation, you could pull it and have some flotation.

That's cool. Already have a wetsuit though. Looking for a PFD. I use a waist harness btw.

I wear a Mystic impact shield with a built in harness. It is not an approved PFD, but I do almost all deep water kiting and it gives me plenty of flotation. I am not sure if they still make the one I have with the harness built in, but an impact shield might be an option for what you are looking for. Mine is pretty comfortable and now I actually prefer it to just a harness.

You probably could wear one of the CO2 inflatable vests for this - would have to have it strapped on all the time, but don't think it would get in the way - just don't get one of the ones that has the auto inflate feature

I have the Neil Pryde 'High Hook' - it is marginally comfortable when I use a waist harness, is Very comfortable when using a seat harness.

here you go....
It's a CO2 powered pillow for those f*** me moments---always have worn one, from the early 80s windsurfing, though kiting till now...
I do still kite, I'll have you know...
anyway, you can find these in Fishing/outdoor emporiums (Bass Pro Shops in the USA)
just strap it on and swing it around back---- there if you need it but unnoticeable when you don't
PERFECT

I use the kitesurf vest from ProMotion. It works great under any harness. Very good performance.
